Default Knock Sensor Part #?

There are two different part numbers listed for the rear knock sensor, anyone know the correct part #?

TIA...

Predator, I checked with the local dealer too and he told me basically what MM said about the tabs - for some reason both part numbers are listed for the rear KS; on my '98 anyway. One with tabs and one without, but the parts counter guy was at a loss to say which one I needed. Hence my post here .

Thanks Bill, I hate to muddy the waters here, but I'm on my third set of knock sensors, and part # 10456603 sensors are identical to the original sensors that were in the car from the factory. The first time I replaced them was for P0332, and a corroded rear sensor from washing the engine. This last set I'm swapping for the heck of it because my ks wire was crushed under the intake and I just decided to swap the sensors, again, while I had the manifold off. Maybe certain years used different sensors; I have a 2000 T/A. You have a '98, correct? I did write down the part number MM supplied, just in case, though .

Predator, could indeed be model year related but with GM who knows LOL! I still get, maybe one run out of ten (logging on ATap), a few degrees of KR (less than 4 and very sporadic) - comes and goes for no apparent reason. So I read the bulletin from GM about the rear KS "fix" and figured what the hell, give it a try. After all it's only 27 bucks for a new one through gmpartsdirect.com

Bill, I think that GM TSB fix is only necessary if you're getting a rear knock sensor code--otherwise the ks is working okay--but preventative maintenance is a good thing .

Ah well, I've already got it ordered now, may as well slap it in - like you said, preventative maintenance!

I don't follow you MM, you mean part #10456603 is not the correct knock sensor?? I got this number from a dealership.

Yup, you won't have to worry about it. Don't forget to pull off the foam pads, under the intake: they're right on top of the knock sensors, when the intake is installed, and any water seems to wick across the foam soaking the rubber boot and seeping into the ks. This time I'm going to put some RTV around the wires, too, where they enter the rubber boot (not mentioned in the tsb).

the 603 may be the knock sensor that works for 99+ cars im not sure, all 98's i have seen need the 222

i believe when i measured the resistance, they were different as well, meaning if youg got both sensors and the right harness on the wrong car it would not work right.

my sensor has a plug on it that looks just like every other plug on the car, has the clip and the silicone booty thing on it.

the one they sold me (603) looks just like one of those pull up tops on a sports drink bottle, identical to an lt1 knock sensor.

...I love the Search feature

I just wanted to add something I found today. I'm in the middle of an ls6 swap and when I pulled my knock sensors our of my '98 Z28, I found that my stock sensors are GM Part # 10456603. My car was made in 2/98. This contradicts and earlier post that all '98's have 10456222 knock sensors...had a pair of the 222's waiting to go in, and I just found out I've got the wrong ones. Now I've got to order the 603's for my '98. These are the ones WITHOUT the locating tabs.

My 98 SS had the kind with the "sport drink pull top" connector (603's). My dealer let me buy both (so I would have the right one while I was doing the job) and return the unused one.
