xpipe:
-little more topend power

hpipe:

Both equalize pressure between exhaust banks, increase scavenging effect and both usually net pretty close to the same power. The differences in sound is subjective, but above is the general consensus.

I'd imagine that the closer you can get the pipes to each other(as in, side by side), the better equilization an H-pipe will give you, since exhaust doesn't have to travel through as long of an EQ tube.
As for how an H-pipe sounds, that's how the Mustang gets its rep for sounding so good. The Y-pipe getup on F-bodies sounds neutered, if you ask me.
