Opinions needed _PLZ
Well me and my buddy tackled the seemingly easy task of installing line lock on my 99 T/A. I havent ever done or experienced this so it didnt go so smoothly. However, we got it in after it too longer than it should have and I realized somethings. Heres where I need some opinions, when trying to mount the switch I was trying to find a good spot. So what do i do, take the 1/2" bit and drill and pick a spot I like that has lots of clearance behind it. I picked the spot thats basically left of the hvac stuff. Ill get pics up later. So i drill my nice hole in the leather cover and through the foam then the plastic. It was a little bit of a stomach curner but I was confident. When I go to put in the switch....The foam made it too thick and it is unmountable in that spot. Basically the hard plastic backing stops the switch and the foam prevents the switch from sticking out but 1/3"...Now i have a large hole on that side. You cant really see it, only I can obviously but its still there. My bad
So first off where have you guys mounted your switches for line lock. And what should I do about the whole. I was thinking riging something up for like a switch panel and takeing a big hole out but that would be too much work I think. Then I thought cover it with a vinly overlay...anyhow sorry for the long description but this sucks...project was a bitch...but line lock workes with no probs, so far.
How bout you run it throught the console, drill a hole inside the console and mount the switch so you have to open it to get to it. Put one of those red saftey covers on it to protect it and you'll be set.
You could also put an extra switch in where the ASR/TCS and Foglight switches are and wire it to that for a more factory look. I have a friend who has 4 switches there, for TCS, foglights, line lock, and power antenna. They look factory.
