How to recharge my Air Conditioning
First (if necessary) would be to lube the compressor. Usually this is only the case if you have an older car that you are recharging the system because it's depleted it's supply of refridgerant. In your case, you may not need this because you simply opened the system to the atomosphere and yours is a newer car.
Then we move onto recharging it with the refridgerant. Screw the one end of the hose onto the R-134a can, have the car running, turn the A/C onto max and then attach the other end of the hose to the low pressure side fitting. The hose should only fit around this fitting and not the high pressure side (which would blow the can up in your face if you attached it to that). Then screw the handle on the hose that's attached to the can. This punctures a hole in it. Then back it out. This will now allow the refridgerant to flow into the system. Turning the can upside down and tapping on it will help expedite the process. You should start feeling cool air coming out by now.
Now if worse comes to worse, it may be best to take it to an experienced technician as the system may need to be vacuumed and purged clean before the recharging process is done.
