i feel like a newb, gap question

Default i feel like a newb, gap question

just picked up some ngk tr55's, after searching i found that i would want to gap them at .050, question is, do i just use the side of the gap tool to press down on the top or is there a better way to do this? just wanna make sure that i dont screw anything up, sorry for the question but thanks to who ever answers this haha

I use the flat portion of the tool to press the top down.

I bump them on the table ever-so-slightly to get the gap down if needed, and I also use an actual feeler guage to check the gap. I usually have to get both of my .025 feeler guages and put them together, but it seems alot more accurate than that sloped *** gapper tool.
