Default Question about A/F Ratio after header install...

Currently car car with lid/cutout puts down 318/334 and my A/F ratio was 11.7 basically across the board so I know I'm running rich. Car is a 2001 Firehawk T/A /w 12000 miles

My question is after I install my Grott Long Tube headers and ORY will the A/F ratio lean out or richen up?? I was told that if I were to get some custom tuning even in my current stockish form I could see 12-15rwhp and 12-15rwtq by leaning out the car. Now I did dyno with a MAFT on the car and made 323/342 and was running 12.3 basically across the board. Now when the MAFT was on the car I saw peek 5rwhp and 8rwtq but in some of RPM ranges I saw upwards of 10rwhp and 15rwtq...

Thanks for any input guys.... <img border="0" alt="[hail]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Firebird]" title="" src="graemlins/formula.gif" />

Most of the time, you motor will run richer. I installed headers last weekend. Before the headers my O2's were perfect at .89. Now, it's a little rich at .92. Not real rich (some guys get way rich w/ headers), I have orp's and I can still hardly smell gas, but it is rich. Now, I need to get a maft before I dyno next weekend. Even running rich I still feel a big power gain, so I should see some good #'s on the dyno after I tune it.

You'll see more power at ~12.8 to 12.9 A/F

Wow you were really rich at 11.7..was that dyno too or autotap cause the autotap air fuel is supposed to be useless.and with maft you only got it to 12.3..like was said should have been leaned down to 12.8 like was posted..I just did longtubes ,car was also reading about .925 leanest.I went down 5 clicks on my maft and now its usually around .898 or so today..no knock retard.of course it will show richer in the low gears..I usually look at it after run to redline in third..My ltrimes look good with zero base.
Only one big problem..I don't have a dyno to check my real o2s and my car is running as slow now as it was before the headers and cutout..actually slower.I got a best trap of 107.2
uncorrected with my lid, holley filter, gms maf, ported tb,ls6 intake,b1 cam, carbon fibre driveshaft, asp underdrive...that corrected out to about 110mph which I figured was about right with my mods and didn't powershift..didn't take car to max possible rpm and car was very heavy 3840 with me in it,half tank of fuel. But now with the headers I have made two runs and one had trap of 103.5,corrected to about 107mph and one today was even worse..like 102.5..wtf?? I think I also left windows down today.. I thought it was tuned right..not sure if I am shifting too low..
or being too slow and hitting the limiter..again no powershifting,no weight reduction..heavy stereo in car, etc.Lousy 60fts but they should increase the mph right..like 2.34 and 2.36..I have cut bests of 2.21 on the street with my firehawks..all these numbers are from my tazzo.I am double blessed..no track within 200 miles and no dyno within 500 miles so have to rely on you guys for advice. My car ran best mph before the headers with maft at zero base and zero wot..but the headers really richened it up..I wish we had wideband o2 sensors from the factory.not sure what I can do..try a bit leaner but pretty sure knock retard will be coming right quick..richer and think car will slow down. What is wrong with my mph..how much do you lose from hitting the limiter in say second to third..should I try to go thru the lights in third..good for like 115 mph I think at my 6600 redline and at my 1900 altitude doubt I can get better than a 110mph unless i lighten car, powershift and get cooler air and take it right up to 6500 or so..pretty darn close to that darn limiter..wish my hpp would at least let you set it to 6800 or 7000.They used to make add on cartriges for the lt1 I had to adjust better for cams.I know I need ls1 edit..darn pricey that thing is..
So it looks like most guys with longtubes do run rich ,anyone turn great mph with no tuning after the headers..like 110 with just headers corrected or 114 or so with headers corrected and cam,etc..
And would appreciate guys who have dynoed to post their maft setting and exact mods that might help us guys who dont' have the dyno/wideband option..
its frustrating ,you think you have your car tuned right and it runs the same times it basically did stock..ARGHHHH!!! Car seems fine too..no ses codes ,exept no air and no egr,no misfires to speak of.no surging..nothing..feels strong, pulls to redline no problem..had new fuel filter last year.plugs and wires have only a few thousand miles on the.Clutch is pretty new and seems to grab very hard..Somedays I hate cars..!!
