Default Descreening MAF will it hurt my car

I was reading around and people were talking about taking the screens out of their MAFs. Will this mod hurt my car or throw anything off.Does anyone know how well this works??

The car will most likely run leaner...
The car will most likely pick up a few degrees of timing....so you'll need to cool it off more to avoid detonation.
Usually it is worth a few ponies to remove the screen.
Ported ends or home porting the MAF is also an option, and is highly recommended by most folks for the 98-99's.
If it is a 00,01,02 A4, with their less than agressive tranny programming...it is not advised to do. (porting the MAF, that is)

But descreening? by all means, do it.
Mucho free mod info is available on my web page.

GM put the screen there to straighten and smooth air flow. This was an issue on the older LT1's because their air intake systems didn't have a straight shot like LS1's do. GM later got rid of the screen on 02 LS6. I don't think it will hurt as per the other posts.

However, I have seen very badly fitting lids, etc allow bugs to get sucked in and the screen will usually catch the bug. A big bug could break a MAF wire if it hit it and wouldn't be good for the engine. Might have a little use as bug guard if the intake track is in poor condition.

As long as everthing fits well shouldn't be a problem.

as long as the lid fascens relatively tight, Im sure you could use any kind of small foam lining to get inbetween the seals, or you could try and home make a kind of rubber gasket out of a sheet of latex. Ive never tried either of these...just sounds like it should do the job

Can anyone explain exactly how and where to place the duck tape or foam in the lid to make it seal better?
