OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install

OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install Just finished installing LT's and took the car out for a shake down run. When i hit it, I get major backfiring. Doesn't matter if I'm running slow or at WOT. WTF is going on?!?!?!?! I reset the PCM twice, and it's still there. HELP MEEEEEE!

Re: OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install More like car is super rich I think and unburned fuel ignites in the pipes..did you put the whole catback and ypipe system on or just open headers..
did you put 02 sensors in.I drove my car to midas and had them install the cats/ypipe and my new cutout and quick time controller..it ran just terrible all the way there..it was way the heck out of tune..my headers made the car very rich at
wot..a bit lean at idle.I had my maft dialed like 5 clicks down to compensate and now have it like two clicks down and am trying to use my hpp non rfg tuning to lean it out and add some spark advance.

Major backfiring after header install Well I am down like four clicks now on my maft and have my non rfg tuning in..car seems to be running much stronger faster and no significant knock retard to speak of..did run my slp fan switch and kept temps at 175 degrees..might just program the hpp to be permanently at the 160 setting but this way I leave hpp at 180 or even 195 and then fire on fans when I want it cooler.this works better when we get cold in october or april..don't drive the car in winter.

Re: OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install I checked all plugs, and that wasn't the problem. Put stock MAF back on, still no dice. Heard some sort of clicking noise under driver's side header, but couldn't locate it. Didn't hear any noise from the top. It's running so bad, I'm scared to drive it. Any other suggestions? Do I need to fab some AIR restrictors?

Major backfiring after header install yes i had long tubes on my car and mine done the same thing. wouldnt run for ****.... my problem was when they put the header in there they cracked 2 plugs on the passanger side. it was missing and sputtering real bad. Get ahold of someone and have it put on a computer and check each cylinder to see if it is firing. They found out it was the 2 plugs poped some new ones in and in ran good. No matter what u do u will always get the ses light to pop up everyonce in awhile. Thats because i wasnt running cats on mine and wit out cats sounded terrible got me a set of cats and it sounded good then.

Re: OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install Like other's have said it's a good chance it's a plug or plugs cracked, plug wire or wires have been broken. An easy way to check what the clicking sound is would be to remove one plug wire at a time from the coil pack ( if there's no change reinstall the wire ), if the clicking goes away you've found your problem ( bad plug or plug wire ). You could have more then one bad plug or wire so listen if the sound goes away or lessens. Good luck and keep us updated.

Re: OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install I thoroughly checked the plugs. No cracks. The tip was almost solid white however, possibly due to a lean condition. They are brand new plugs.
Re: OMG!!!! Major backfiring after header install Did you install a SLP fan switch at the same time?A friend of mine did when he did his headers and it ended up being the switch setup.Would misfire the driver side bank.
