Default Oil pressure

It seems my oil pressure gauge has been more active than before. During idle it reads around the mid fifties range, but the needle is not consistant as before. It is somewhat jumpy now, moving back and fourth. During acceleration the pressure reads a lot higher than before. Half throttle and WOT the pressure now reads closer to 80, were as before it read somewhere around 72 to 75. This seems a bit on the high side to me. This is my second Z and I don't remember this ever being a problem before. Do these readings sound high? Or is this normal for the LS1. Has anyone had any problems with their oil pump, or with their gauge or sensor? I want to take it to the dealer but I'm trying to find out as much info. as possible, before I go.

Thanx in advance

Oh by the way the car is a 2002 Z28 6 speed with 4100 miles. Only mod Dynomouth exhaust.

I've been experiencing similar problems. It all started when my car began to drink oil. I've rigged up a catch can using a fuel filter, but hasn't caught much yet, still trying to figure out where my oil has gone, and why the oil pressure seems to fluxuate like that.

well, on the idle i have like around 40, may be a little bit more and when i accelerate or at wot i'm close to 80s. i think it's not about oil pump, it's about the oil brand you use. i have experienced different oil preassures with different brands of oil, but all of them were 10-3-

My oil pressure was fairly constant until recently. It now jumps around alot too with presures as high as 80psi! I always use the same synthetic oil 5-50.

I heard there has been alot of oil pump failures with 97-98 LS1s but GM changed suppliers in 99.

I am keeping my eye on the gauge because of this...I assume the oil pump could fail at any time!
