Default MAF Suggestions....Is it the cause of my detonation?

I have had quite a few issues with WOT inaudible detonation between 4000-5500rpm as well as audbible knock at lower RPM part throttle.. If I come around a corner at 2000rpm in 2nd and lightly touch the gas pedal to accelerate out of it, I can easily hear and feel the detonation. If I am driving one speed and push my foot to the floor it will ping a buncha times as well before I take it the PCM backs the timing off enough that it goes away...

I have done the PCV mod and do not feel this is the cause of it..

I have played around quite a bit with the timing in LS1Edit and cannot get rid of it.

I have come to the conclusion that it may be my MAF sensor that is causing it.. I am running the SLP Big MAF.. I had it on my car when I had my heads/cam and there were no problems.. Ever since the 436ci install, this detonation has started.. I believe this was one of the earlier SLP MAFs and I replaced the smaller 97 stock one with it..

There is a resistor that SLP puts in this MAF to richen the car up a bit correct? Should I remove it? Should I just get a new LS6 MAF? I imagine I will have to retune the whole car pretty much if I do replace it, but I am on a definite mission to get rid of this damn detonation!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Join the club I have the same problem with mine. Just tap the gas pedal slightly at 2000 RPM's and there you have it "PING" Im thinging it's because im running really hot. 215+ degrees on the temp gauge. Im hoping a 160 t-stat will help cure this problem. Good luck.

What is the compression ratio on that 436ci motor? What octane gas are you running?

If the MAF has something on it to richen up the car then that isnt causing detonation. You are running to lean then. Check the air/fuel with atap and go from there.

The CR of the motor is 11.5 and it never see's less than Sunoco Ultra 94.. I was running the strongest NOS octane boost for quite awhile and it didnt improve anything either.

My fuel pressure is normal. My LTRIMS all average around -5, my car pulls a 12.7 AFR at WOT on a dyno. I do have the stock T-stat in the car but with my heavy duty radiator and oil cooler my coolant never goes over 205 degrees. I have a 172 T-stat that I may try.

I just bought a 00' ram Air M6. I got a little detenation at high rpms. I was going to take it in and have it looked at but I tried switching MAF sensors with my 02 and I think it went away. The M6 is so loud under WOT it's kind of hard to tell if it is or isn't now. I'm also going to put in a 160 thermostat just because it helped the 02 run a little rich.

As for the 00' MAF on the 02', no detenation at all. Go figure???
