Muffler or Cat back Im am about to buy random tech exhaust and saw where someone said they got just as much of a horsepower gain from putting just a flowmaster muffler on as putting an expensive cat back1 Is this true?! Im not going to waste 400 dollars is I am going to get the same thing from flowmaster as I am from a full cat back. Also can anyone tell me how much louder random tech is than flowmaster when crusing?! Thanks.
Re: Muffler or Cat back I say Cat back.... you get a better intermediate pipe along with it.
If your on a budget.. look at the Hooker. It's got a great sound and a great price.

Re: Muffler or Cat back I have only heard hooker on a few lt1's and one ls1 with headers. i dont plan on doing headers so ive never really heard hooker like it would sound with my application. I have heard about 3 good sound slips of random tech and it has a low deep rumble to it and thats what I am looking for. Does anyone have any 1st hand experiance with how much power you get from a muffler compared to a full cat back? Again anyone out there that can compare flowmaster to random tech as fr as how loud it is?

Re: Muffler or Cat back The stock LS1 exhaust flows pretty good to begin with. Your gonna get a little extra with the full cat-back since your replacing the I-pipe to a larger size probably. But if your on a budget just go with the muffler.

If you're on a budget, just do the muffler and it doesn't matter which one. They all flow pretty good. When you get the $$$, go with a Cat-Back system. Everyone loves my GMMG Chambered System, but the choice is yours'.

I love the sound of gmmg and have thee moeny to buy its but just cant make myself spend that much! I thought the ws6 exhaust flowed well and the trans am sucked really bad.

Re: Muffler or Cat back The stock muffler sucks really bad. The stock pipes are 2.75" mandrel bent stainless... only .25" smaller than most cat-backs. Not a big enough difference to make more power on our cars unless you do serious mods, at least heads and cam.
My car is proof, I pull as much or more on the dyno with my lid and muffler (Dynomouth), as guys with the most expensive cat-backs and lid. And proud of it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
Do yourself and wallet a favor and just get a muffler. Make sure it is free flowing though, there is a difference between brands.
