question about thermostat

question about thermostat has anyone ever taken apart the thermostat and just used a plate with a hole in it like the old days? then just use the fans to keep the engine at a certain temp? ive been thinking about doing it lately.

that's proportional to RPM only. This might
be OK for steady-state RPM and load, but
it won't track temperature like a thermostat
will. It's better to have a thermostat that
maintains temperature and flows like (or
better than) the restrictor, and have fans
that keep radiator temp below the thermostat
crack-open point.
