Default Headers/Custom Y questions, and first post

Hey guys, first post here (regular on Camaroz28.com) though i've been lurking for a while filling myself with LS1 technical goodness

Anyways, looks like i'll be going with coated Hooker longtubes for my '02, and have a couple of questions.

1) I'm going to have a custom Y done, so what do you recommend for pipe diameter? I will be incorporating a flowmaster collector in the system, but want the outlet to match up to my GMMG exhaust (not sure that diameter, i'm at work right now).

I plan on getting a cam (TR 224 or 220) at the same time, so the main performance mods will be Cam, headers, high flow cats, custom Y, GMMG exhaust, MTI Lid.

Do you recommend a 2.5" Y or 3" Y?

2) So what do you think, I plan on keeping my stock heads with the above mods, I know this is beating a dead horse, but would you recommend a 114 or 112 LSA for the cam with my M6 tranny but I would like to keep the idle at stock (ie. no drilling if possible).

3) relating to first question, what is the diameter of the GMMG inlet?

Thanks guys.

Well since no one has replied I will put my $.02 in.
I'm no cam expert from what I have been reading if you go with the 112LSA you will need to drill the TB or re-program your ECM. With the 114LSA I think it can idle fine with an M6 at stock idle. I'm planning on putting a TR 114LSA in my car sometime in the future but I don't know which specs I am going with either 220 or 224.
I've heard the TR 220 w/ 114LSA is a good cam for stock heads and stock idle.

As far as the y-pipe the Hooker LT's collector is 3". So I think it would be a good idea to go with a 3" y-pipe into a 3.5" or 4" collector. The I-pipe to the GMMG is 3". I went ahead and got a mufflex y-pipe and had high-flow cats welded in. It sounds really good

The idle can surge a little bit and with out LS1 Edit to remove the random missfire sensor the "SES" light will come on if you don't "tap" the gas about every 20 seconds. This will happen with either 112 or 114 LSA. But if you get LS1 Edit done on your car you can raise the idle, which you will need with either 112 or 114 LSA.
On my T1 with the 112 LSA Jayson at MTI brought my idle up to 900rpm's which is real smooth and seldom surges.
So I would say go for the 112 LSA.

Hope this helps,
Craig.
