Default Wet carpet when I run the A/C

Couple weeks ago I noticed the carpet under the passenger floor mat was soaking wet. I'd been running the A/C that day, which I don't very often, do I figured it had to be that. The next time I used it, I looked over there and saw a small stream of water coming from under the dash up by where the trans tunnel meets the firewall. Didn't smell like anything so I guess it's only water from condensation. Any (cheap) way to fix this?

Bad news bro. Definately sounds like a leaking Heater core to me . The heater core is located behind the dash on the passenger side, and your coolant flows through it. Sounds like when you engage the AC the core is leaking. They're not "that" bad to replace, but time consuming and no fun.

actually it sounds like the evaporator case is leaking. this is the "box" that encloses the heater core and the evaporator. you should check the weephole (make sure water puddles under the car when the a/c is on) if it is draining properly then the case probably needs to be resealed which is a PITA. good luck

Could something as simple as the drain hose getting disconnected.. it happens. Not sure whats involved in putting it back on though...

Thanks for the ideas. I'll see if I can get in there with a flashlight tomorrow and tell where it's leaking from.

There was a post awhile ago about this same problem, I suggested he take a look at the drain hose to see if it was pluged. He found it was pluged but the f-body doesn't use a hose, it's a canister with a small hole in the bottom of it. You should be able to see it mounted on the passenger side outside firewall, I'd take a picture of it but I know longer have a f-body. Good luck.

Take a coat hanger or a welding rod and when you have the car on a lift ,stick it in the drainhole about a half inch. More than likely you got algae buildup in there or a mud dauber made a nest there. There is no hose there so you have to look real hard to find the hole in the evap case.

Ok, I got under there today and that hole is clear, water does drip out of it when the A/C is running. I took off that black panel under the glove compartment and ice water is still leaking out of this black box there. There's an area that's hot (heater core?) and one that's cold. It's leaking out of a seam on the bottom of the cold part where it bolts on. Is there a seal in there that can go bad?

How much drips out of the drain hole? If you can some how blow air through the drain hole it will loosen anything you cant get at with coat hanger.

ah ha! i found the culprit, i gutted my interior and threw away the stock carpet. anyways today i was washing my car, and like u guys said i leaked tested the car. right away i saw water pouring in, so i popped the hood, looked around, and the grommet for the hood release cable was off, and water was pouring by the cowl into the bay in the corner and right into that big hole. the grommet is on the inside of the car on the cable, and im tryin to get it back on, but my big hands dont fit. hopefully it doesnt rain tonite

Good neighbor friend has a 97 rs and called me today with a leaking problem. His passenger side (up under the dash) leaks water into the cabin as well. Not sure of the exact place as im just going off his description, but he said he thinks there is a condesation tube (or any kind of tube he guesses) going to the AC thats clogged.
The car leaks out water heavily while the AC is turned on and stops when off.

a good friend of mine has a 2000 impala and was having the same problem. it was the drain hose. on that particular car it was located coming out of the firewall on teh sappenger side and was a just a 90degree elbow sticking out. we pulled it off cleaned it up and it worked perfect since. look for hte drain tube that everyone talks about and that should take care of the problem.

.. why do we need another section? Isn't the A/C "External Engine"?

So, what's the fix guys? I just noticed mine doing this today. It was pouring out like crazy when accelerating (lightly) from a stop. Had a serious puddle in passenger side footwell. It pours out of the top side of the passenger side tranny hump. I have trouble changing light bulbs in the house and starting my lawnmower (slight exaggeration), but I don't want to take this to the dealer! The local boys scare me.

Hell no don't stick a coat hanger in the weephole....unless you want to buy a whole new evaporator!!!

The problem is most likely that something (a leaf, bug, piece of melted tar) is cloggint the evaporator drain hole. It's a tiny black hole on the passanger side firewall above the passanger header. My AC was pouring water like a freaking river inside. Got some compressed air, blew it through a hose right into the weephole (which is about the diameter of a #2 pencil). A couple leaf crumbs fell out. I was thinking there was no way in hell that was cloggin my AC and causing a freakin lake in my car. Well....that WAS the prob. It's very common to Chevy's.

So again, try this first...simple to do. And for the love of God, don't ****** stick anything in the damn weephole (like a coathanger)....you WILL f' the evaporator up!!
