Yeah good info but sounds like there could be bad news on the horizon for performance cars and related aftermarket parts. Can you imagine one day when automobiles become strictly functional. We'll be logging on to the Prius forums and bragging about how we upped our gas mileage to 72mpg with the latest aftermarket chip.

I don't understand why this wouldn't be standard practice.
ID / OD means you have some means of expanding pipe. Most hoem users do not. We use ID/ID so all you have to do is cut your 2.5" OD pipe and slide it in both sides.if you have the capability to bump tubing you can bump the tube over the 2.5 ID nipple anywayso it shoudl not be a problem.

Understand, makes sense. I don't like expanding after close-joints have been welded (esp. on a cat where the honycomb is moreorless press-fit). However, putting a OD/ID reverse attachment fitting in your exhaust (ie, against the airflow) is a bad idea ---> makes it prone to exhaust leaks!

AutoZone has various size exhaust pipe expanders available as loaner tools, very simple to use;

using this you can expand the downstream pipe to fit over the upstream pipe.

Why would you change those out? I ask because I like that system.

I'm thinking ahead when the cats "wear" out and need replacement, but they would have to have the 4 bolt flange so they would bolt right up to the collector ring.

(...and also, being in Cal. it may be wise to be able to show an EO # for the cats if not for the headers).

The mini sized ones look good.. wish those were around a while ago, I would have had a Y pipe made rather then running the QTP one. Are these stainless too my ay chance, or will they be offerend in stainless?

Joe Car:

No cat would be CARB legal on LT headers ... unfortunately relocation of the cat makes for automatic failure. Our currrent OBDII CARB cats will pass the sniffer but again do to the relocation they would NOT be considered legal.

RrCoX22:

I wil have to check with sales as these numbers have been released.

Sean's SS:

One reason would be additional flow. If the cats are ceramic 400 cell cats the MagnaFlow Ultra-Flows are goign to make for a substantial increase.

RevGTO:

I'm looking for info from sales on availibility of pricing.

JL - WS6:

Indeed ... stainless core and shell.

Might have to pick a couple of the mini's up when I gut the Y off my car... wonder how that will sound with one of those coming off the header collector, into a pair of xr1 mufflers dumped........

Do you make any that have the 4-bolt flange on the front, same as in the picture I posted...?
I understand that relocating the cat fails the visual, that's my responsibility.
