Default Advantages of Cutouts

I just read that cutouts dont really add too much power to your car. It doesnt make any since though. Anyone with cutouts did yall notice any changes with them? and what is the purpose of them? to be loud when you want and be quiet when you want.

They bypass the cat back. the crappier the catback the more you will gain. and its louder.

Advantages include, but are not limited to the following:
1. LOUD
2. LOUD
3. LOUD
4. and when I don't feel like racing, the cutouts normally make people back off. I have two right after the header so it's almost like running open headers.
5. I have noticed that if my cutouts are just cracked open a tiny bit (electric cutouts), they sound pretty decent and actually yield more power without sacrificing low end torque. This is cracked open a smidge... like if I hold the button for half a second.
6. Oh yeah, they're loud.

another thing is if your car is tuned with the cutouts closed it will be off some with them open if you have a restriction in your exhaust.my car ran like crap with my cutout open but it was tuned slightly lean with them closed.

With a big cam, you will find an increase in hp. With my set-up, I gained around 25hp with it open, verse closed!

Is it worth doing with just a stock exhaust, ie no headers, no cat-back, just stock?

gained my 2mph at the track i ran once with it closed and went 110 then the next run with it open i went 112 and stayed around that number the rest of the day, my cutout is a hair bigger than qtp though it is a full 3.5inches. Also i have a complete stock exhaust with cats, mainifold and stock catback, i can't image the gain on a headered or cammed car

with LTs, no cats and a flowmaster muffler, my cut out open gained 10rwhp/13rwtq and the car feels stronger on throughout the rpm band, low and high.

my z28 is a m6 so loudness is only an issue when nailing the gas other then that I can keep it quiet by upshifting.

It sounds mean too, but is for aquiered taste! some like it some hate it

About the same with me...identical setup...my wife always says.." open the cutout" ...I like mine, but get tired of it..lots of people say with the flow. muffler it sounds great..I think it does too, so many do not like flow. , but with the cutout open, you are bypassing it mostly anyway. I wouldn't want my car any louder....LOTSA FUN though.

i put one on my car when it was nearly stock and netted 5rwhp and 9 rwtq on a dynojet and when open it sounded really good imo, even just driving around town. after a cam and some bolt ons with no cats, it sounds really awesome at idle and WOT, but inbetween those RPM ranges, its a little too loud to drive around town imo--and i gained 11rwhp/10rwtq

dont mean to hijack but how often do you guys open your cuttouts? I heard they start breaking and working like **** if you open them too often (more than once a week).

Keep them away from heat and they should last a while. I plan on putting mine behind the axle but before the mufflers (true duals). If they do leak, I wont mind or even notice it back there.

Good idea..I am thinking of moving my 1 cutout behind axle also--there are a couple guys here who have them in that spot. Much better for cabin noise too.

ive had my cutout in the indented spot under the passenger side rear seat and have had no problems at all, and everyone else in my car club hasnt had a problem with it there. i think you start running into problems when its right after the headers, something about the 02 sensors start to mess up b/c of the air escaping quicker or something like that.
