Default A HUGE problem with FLP headers ... they are mispackaging the headers!

I have a '98 TA. I ordered FLPs and the box clearly said 98-99.

The driver's side air tube is on the #3 cylinder tube instead of #1 like the factory manifolds. And, the angle is all wrong.

I posted up about this a couple of weeks ago and was told it's normal.

Went over to a friend's house to help install FLPs on a 2K2, pulled out the driver's side header and guess what ...

air tube is on #1 cylinder tube instead of #3. And the angle is all wrong.

We look at another '98 (with the correct FLP headers) and the new headers we were gonna install for the '02 looks right for the '98.

We look at mine (with the wrong angled air tube on #3 tube), and they look like they are for the '02.

Someone has either screwed up the jig, messed up the inventory or drives an import ...

This is the drivers side header sent for my '01 that looks like the '98 part.

That sucks, Mitch...it may be easier, now, to either buy the AIR pipes you need or heat/bend the ones you currently own...

I assume they are going to swap it out for me in a timely manner, which is about all I can expect at this point. Hopefully I won't have to eat the return shipping...

I predict that FLP will personally respond to this thread tomorrow.

MitchNTX: you didn`t mention anything about EGR.
If you had gotten headers for 01-02 it would have no EGR provisions... that would be a bigger problem than bending the air tube.

I just got off the phone with Mitch from FLP. They took care of me. Basically, he is overnighting the correct '01 header to me, and a shipping label to return the '98 header. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Dan e-mailed me and explained that their was a mixup at the manufacturer where 98/99 versions were being shipped for later models.

He said a few sets got out before the problem was caught but has since been rectified.

98/99 versions have the AIR tube on #1 cylinder (the first one) and the later version are on the #3 cylinder tube (the second one).

Can someone tell me EXACTLY what to look for. I have had a set of FLP headers that I bought about a month ago sitting in the basement and I would like to check this out. My car is a '99 M6.

TIA,
-Nick

Yes, Dynatech made an error on your driverside header. All you gotta do is just bend and shorten the AIR tube (very easy to do).. if you do not feel comfortable doing that after spending the $$ on headers that`s understandable, then all you gotta do is call Mitch and he`d take care of it for ya as he did for 98 1LE.. their name is on the headers so they will take the resposibility... bashing them doesn`t help much IMOP.. nobody`s perfect, mistakes happen..

I got the replacement header a little while ago. It is the correct part, but the quality is not what the original was. It is scratched up and has a small gouge in one of the tubes. The finish isn't as bright as the other. It is all cosmetic, but I am disappointed with the quality for what I paid. Unfortunately this seems to be more the norm than the expeption with vendors these days.

You are correct, Chuck.

With the extortion price gougig vendors get for some of these parts, is utterly ridiculous.

For the life of me I cannot understand why any cam for a SBC or Ford is $125 and is 3 times that for an LS1.

Hookers for an SBC can be bought for $250, but is twice that for an LS1.

And we keep paying the price ...
