Throttle Body Bypass help
I already took 30 minutes out of my life and bent some copper pipe and sanded it down and made it look real pretty like...I was just asking ratio411, his post looks kind of negitive?

Negative? No, I have the mod, like the mod, had it for 3 years of Minnesota weather... no problems. No way to prove that it makes power, it'll never happen because dynos have a margin of error and this mod would fall in that range assuming scientific theory is right and it does make power. I just look at it like "every little bit helps".
As far as emissions go, the idea is to make everything about your engine hot as possible. This makes the engine burn off more pollutants, and the hot air systems combined with the exhaust keep your cats super hot which is how they burn off even more pollutants. Good for emissions, bad for performance. I'm no gross polluter, but I'm not a tree fugger either.

Btw: Get some Brasso and wipe that copper down with it! It'll look awesome.
I dont see much benefit to having the TBB mod. This is how I see it. Your aluminum block running in normal street usage gets much hotter than the coolant. Look where the TB is in position to the block. Why do you want an uncooled TB running in normal street usage? I can see it maybe providing benefit for a 1/4 mile run while the motor is not that warm. But once the block reaches a temperature higher than the coolant then you lose all the benefit of the TBB.
Flame me if Im wrong..I am not pretending to be an expert but I believe that GM put that thing on for a reason. I have not seen any actual proof that it is a "cold weather mod" from GM.
Another bad reason to remove it is if you bring your car in for warranty work they have yet another excuse to violate your warranty agreement if they want to. I think that is reason enough to not do it. But then again some people have different value systems and this may not be a big deal to some people.

The coolant lines are there to HEAT UP the throttle body, not cool it. Nylon is not a good conductor of heat and thus the heat from the block is not transferred to the throttle body via the intake.
BTW, I sure hope no one violates my warranty or they will have a sexual abuse law suit on their hands LOL!
TB bypass Dyno
I was thinking about doing this mod, so I did a search on this forum and found this thread. It sounds like a good and simple idea. If you had questions about gains, check out the dyno results below ... I got them from the BMR webpage:
TB bypass Dyno

That was with a 1996 T/A w/ the LT1 engine...now if hp numbers go up in the LT1, will I have better luck w/ my LS1? <--------------
Dave
Yeah, I have seen that dyno before. It always gets flamed because it is an LT1 engine. What most folks overlook is that if it was an LT1, L98, 5.0, 4.6, and yes an LS1, there would be a power gain because it is not the engine. It is simple physics that cooler air makes more power. <---PERIOD
Dave

Thanks! I'll do mine soon...

I Did a boo-boo three weeks ago though, took the truck in for transmission work and the dealer guys opened the hood, saw the bypass, and told me to take it home and fix that if I didn't want them to put a warranty block on it.

They are full of ****...
The law says that they cannot deny warrantee unless they can prove your mod caused the problem you want fixed.
Also, even if they prove that the problem is related to one of your mods, they can only deny service on that one part... the rest of the car is still under warrantee.

Does that change anything? IT IS PART OF THE EMISSION CONTROLS! I think they are probably busting his *****, but they are not FOS!
