header install = tick from exhaust Just installed my hooker LTs and new plugs (tr-55) gapped at .056. All was good but I am getting this awefull tick what sounds like from the rear of the exhaust. I can stick my head under the hood and rev up the engine and it sounds perfect. But as soon as I get on the road I get this ticking starting at 2000 rpms and gets louder and louder as I go faster. No SES just this sound that I have GOT to get rid of. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Re: header install = tick from exhaust Could be an exhaust leak? Or it could be the fluttering of your check valves if they are still on your car. Did you do the AIR restrictor mod for the AIR tubes?

Re: header install = tick from exhaust No, I did not do the air restricter mod but like I said. It doesnt appear to be coming from the engine. Could it still be that though???

Re: header install = tick from exhaust Do you still have the factory tunnel brace on your car? If so, that could be what is causing the sound you hear. Maybe your Y-pipe (I'm assuming you have a Y-pipe) is rubbing or bumping the brace.

Re: header install = tick from exhaust It could be the AIR check valve fluttering, the y pipe rubbing the tunnel brace. Is it a ticking or like a rattle... if its a rattle it could be rasp.

Re: header install = tick from exhaust It is definitly a click or a tick. Its really bad. If I accelerate really slow or rev it up from a stop. Nothing. But if I drive and get to 2500 rpms or acclerate more than 1/4 throttle. Hear it comes and bad... I think its my valves fluttering. Can I just rip out the whole air system and put block off plates on?? I know it will throw a code but what if I drive with that SES code. Will it hurt??

Re: header install = tick from exhaust Did you check clearance around the heatshields and where the Y-pipe goes under the tunnel brace? How long have you noticed this sound and how many miles since you put on your headers? If it's the AIR check valves they might be fried. However, if it hasn't been long why not fab up some restrictor plates and slap those on and see if that doesn't help. On another note, yes, you can gut all of the emissions stuff without any hindering of performance but you will set a couple SES codes that can be deleted. Block-off plates can be purchased from many of the sponsers at the right or you can make your own to block off the AIR tubes and the EGR. Do a search for AIR restrictor mod and that should help out or go to ls1info.com and find it there.

Re: header install = tick from exhaust Damn, I think I've posted this 3 times on here already <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> Its more than likely a loose plug. I had the same thing. With the hood open I couldn't hear ****, but when I got under the car I heard a really loud tick. It checked and double checked everything but it still was there. Finally I just tightened my #8 plug and it went away. Since you changed your plugs while you did your headers, my bets on that.
