Default Spark Plug Help!

I picked up some Bosch Platinum +4 they were $6 a pop. I figured this would be the best choice for spark plugs. Anyways, I have a few questions.

1. I have heard good things about NGK T55 spark plugs, would these be better or are the Bosch good?

2. What wires should I get...they are alot more expensive than I was hoping.

3. My car has 81k miles on it..I figured its time for a Spark Plug change, but how do you really know? I am unsure if they were changed by a previous owner.

4. What is a good walkthrough for the entire install for the plugs and wires as I've never attempted this before. www.installuniversity.com is kind of confusing (maybe I'm just an idiot?)

Anyways, thank you for the help.

1 The boschs are not worth the $6/plug, the NGKs are a better price $1.68, and perform just as well
2 the stock wires are fine, the "performance" ones are really only cosmetic, the LS1s wires are so short the high dollar performance wire really doesn't make that much of a difference
3 Does it idle rough, pop or backfire, about the only way to really know is to take the plugs out and look at them
4 Changing the plugs is really pretty simple, just a bitch due to the crowded engine bay, the last plug on the pass side usually comes out better if you go under the car. Don't forget the anti seize for the new plug threads

ok so these will be about the same as the TR55's...Meh, the price doesnt bother me because I don't want to wait to order the NGK TR55's and stores don't carry them....anyways, ok stock wires are cool....my car idles fine....of course it backfires alot becuase I have no cats.

Another dumb question, whats anti seize?

Also, after I put these in, should I notice much of a difference in the way the car drives or idles or starts?

I got some NGKs for christmas, and some new plug wires, but I cant reach the dang things. I got the first one off on the driver side, but gave up on the second one. I couldn't unscrew it. I'm gonna order the special wrench from SLP. But yeah, change them as soon as you can.

anti-seize is this semi-metallic paste that will prevent your plugs from seizing in the head. use a little bit on the threads - works wonders. usually they sell small tubes or packets of it at the auto stores. ask for it, and they will know what you mean. it will be a silvery paste. good luck...and you need to get the car up on ramps to get #8 cylinder

NGK are a much better plug than Bosch! I put Bosch plugs in my car one time and I will never do it again.

It will be a lot easier if they've been changed before. If not, you'll probably have to fight a couple of them. I didn't need to get underneath or use ramps to get the #8 out, just a uv joint and a pipe on my ratchet to act as a breaker bar. I guess GM never heard of antiseize, because my plugs were the factory pieces, and had no antiseize on them They were a bitch to break loose. Hopefully the tr55's I put in several thousand miles back will come out easier.

Do it when the engine is cold (as the GM service manual warns, to avoid pulling the threads out of the heads, and so you don't get scalded).

The install university write-up is pretty good. For the passenger's side I removed the coil packs. Number 8 was not too hard to remove from the top.

1. I would have used the TR55s instead.

2. I have the MSD wires from Thunder. Theres a BIG difference in Ohms, if you Ohm them. The stockers are ~400 Ohms and the MSDs were ~25.

3. Yes, change them.

4. Pull off wire, remove plug, put anti-seize on new plug and reinstall. Youll have to find your own tricks for them, but I use a wobble 3" extension for the drivers side and a universal for the pass. side. For the last 2 on the pass side you have to see with your fingers, not your eyes.

yes get the ngks and save yourself some loot. You can hit all the plugs from the top, just remove the egr on the passenger side and the coils.....they are all cake, except for the last one on the pass side. But, once you do it, it will be easy every time after.

**** on Bosch man, go with the NGKs. They are the most widely used plug on this site, and for good reason.

Does the Ohm difference make any difference in performance?

Only con of the copper TR55's is they won't last as long as platinum or iridium.
