Default Do prothane motor mounts raise engine?

Prior to installing my 408 and prothane motor mounts I had ZERO y-pipe floor bang, now it is laying against the floor boards in one spot on the driver side. There is no clearance! I have removed and reinstalled the Y-pipe several times trying to fix the problem but it seems as if this specific spot on the Y cant be moved down vertically.

Any ideas? Would it be a bad idea to put a bunch of spacers between the chassis and the transmission crossmember to move the whole engine/tranny assembly down about 0.5 inches?

THanks!

I'd say that it does...I had to leave my engine suspended with only one poly and one rubber mount for one week, and my engine was tilted to one side, causing my passenger side header to rub the k-member (this was the side that still had the rubber mount). As for using spacers, I don't know...that'd be a PITA for sure to install though.

Any good ideas as to how I could squish the y-pipe in the area without bending the pipe? I just want to make sure it will still line up with the header and other y section.

I installed a poly mount on my driver side only...haven't gotten around to putting the passenger one in yet. Yes, it raises it slightly, my engine sits a little crooked now. I ended up notching the brace under the car with a dotco tool where the pipe was hitting. Now my engine is solid as hell...even with the one poly mount and I don't have any banging issues. I wasn't too worried about notching the brace either. I wondered if it would affect the structural rigidity, but I highly doubt it. I haven't had any problems.

What headers and y-pipe are you using?

The only solution I can think of is to flatten the y-pipe in the areas that need it.

Kooks 1 3/4" race headers to their ORY going back to borla catback. Any suggestions on how to flatten the area without actually bending the rest of the pipe? I just dont want to get into a situation where it wont line up with the other two pipes that it connect to! It seems like some pretty thick stuff so I am not sure if a hammer will do anything

Try using a bench vise. Is it hitting in an area that is already flattened?

I had the same issue. I also installed the Prothane mounts when I installed Kooks 1 3/4 race headers & Y. The Y was sitting against the undercarriage. Like 99Hawk262, I notched out the sub-frame or crossmemember to get the clearance. I used a 4" angle grinder and touched it up with Duplicolor. I had to do this in 2 spots on the driver side. It's not that bad and really no need to worry if you have SFC's. Good Luck!

Well, i am going to try and flatten the pipe with a vise and a 2X4 and see if that works first. If not, then I will use the grinder!

they will raise the motor mostly due to the fact that they are stiffer and wont give as much as the rubber when the motor rests on them. plus its likely that your old mounts were beginning to sag a little.

Problem fixed. Grabbed a huge vise and squished the little biotch. I have about 1/4" of clearance now and NO banging as of yet!
