Default balancer tube in the y-pipe

I saw a post a few days ago where somebody posted a picture of a balancer tube in their y-pipe. I was wondering how that would affect performance, or would it just affect the sound. It would seem to act similarly to an H-pipe, but I would think that would be cancelled out by the dynamics of a y-pipe. Can anyone speak from experience on this?

What you are describing makes absolutely no sence to me. The purpose of a balance tube in a dual exhaust set up is to allow some normalization of the exhaust pressure between the isolated seperate 4 cylinders on the left to the same on the right side of the car. Our F-bodies have no similarity to an isolated true dual exhaust and when speaking of a "balance tube" in a "y" pipe conjures up some rather unflattering comments. I'm not sure if I'm reading what you are saying right or not. I hope someone else can help on your point of question.

I thought the same thing, but I saw the picture and it caught my eye and I wanted to know more about it. It was in a post about x vs. y vs. h-pipe, but it was edited out and I can't find out who posted it. It was a good looking y-pipe design, and I think it was added only for sound purposes.

Thanks for the response mgreen. The reason I asked the question is because I was considering adding MAC's at some point and I have no desire to run true duals so I would have had a Y-pipe set up and I know they are notorious for rasp.

I installed a 1.75" crossover on my homebuilt 3" Y-pipe.
Made a pretty big difference.I had some pretty nasty rasp going on before. It is now just about gone.
I probably should have gone 2.25" to totally rid it.
Somehow it helps in eliminating the snap, crackle, pop of 2 pipes merging together by messing with the soundwaves.
I can't see it doing anything for power though.
