Default SLP Lid or K&N Induction

I am going to improve the induction on my '99 WS6 and narrowed it down to the SLP Lid or the K&N Induction(oval air filter in the open...looks sweet!!!) For those who don't know what the K&N Induction looks like go to http://www.ls1speed.com/catagory.cfm...ory=induction. My friend got the K&N Induction for his LT1 Vette (3 cylinder air filters in the open) and I love the way it looks. I was wondering if the K&N Induction adds more HP than the lid. I know that I like the way the K&N looks way better than the lid but it costs like $300. I was wondering what you guys think b4 I make a purchase and if anyone who has the K&N Induction can give me some feedback on the quality/performance value of it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I installed the FIPK because I preferred the way it looks. Prior to installing it I did the FRA mod which provided substantial improvement in 60-90 MPH times over the stock lid. The FIPK gave a slight improvement over the FRA mod; less than 1/10 sec. Gas mileage did improve...about 10%.

I've not experienced any whistling noises. There is a noticeable increase in engine noise at WOT but it's not at all annoying.

So even though the K&N looks more trick I should get the lid? The lid will make my car perform better than the K&N?

yea since you got a ws6 i would say to not do the FRA. I would get a lid and a k&n panel filter and then remvoe the rain baffles in the ws6 hood.

My vote. Stick with a lid.

FIPK is more expensive and has shown less HP increase.

I have the SLP lid

I have the FIPK and like it.A lot of people don't like it because it draws air from the engine bay.Someone on this board compared the two at the track and they were about the same.....FRA is free ram air.Use the search feature to find more details.

I would not do the FRA, as the air on your WS6 enters the car differently from other F-bodies due to the Ram Air nostrals. You already are getting much higher air flow compared to other cars.

As you have a WS6, I'd keep the airbox, add a new lid and seal the air intakes on your hood to the airbox to create a true ram air effect (see Brian Greens Ram Air on the same webpage you found the K&N induction). You have a ram air hood, use it. Your WS6 will most likely get better performance going this route over the K&N induction system.
