I'm wanting to put the Hooker catback on my Trans Am and have a coupls questions. I like the sound of the system, and want to get some quad tips to fill in the empty space left by the factory WS6 exhaust. I'm wanting to know how well the system flows opposed to my WS6 catback, to figure out if it's worth it, or if I should just get a cut out?
Thanks.
Thanks.

How about a Hooker cat back and a cutout. Cutouts are only about $60 installed, then you could uncap it at the track.

With the hooker catback you don't need a cut out. Basically it already has one. The muffler/tailpipes bolt to the I-pipe with a header collector flange. Just take out the 3 bolts, slide muffler off the hanger and go. get the benifets of a cut out plus the weight savings of no muffler

The Hooker catback is one of the best flowing catbacks on the market. There have been heads/cam cars to only make 2-3 more HP through a cutout, compared to running through the muffler. One of the best sounding, and probably in the top 3 best flowing, bad *** for 270 bucks if you ask me....

I wonder if us who have the old chrome ones can get the new SS ones for cheap or even free from them. Seems like I heard of another exhaust company doing something like this awhile ago.

i would say the hooker for sure before but now with stainlees tips you can't beat the price for under 300.00.i liked the look of the old duel tips and the chrome on the outside held up good. the inside just rusted.i just put on stainless round tips like the ss ones on mine yesterday.go figure.by the way i got mine from thunder racing like i do 99% of my stuff they're great.them and the tire rack are my two favorite.

I was going to get the Hooker CB but everyone was out of stock. I got the Random Tech Catback for $320 at Thunder. Got the RT mostly because they were the only one to post a Dyno Test on their Catback.

I dont know if you've tuned it or not, but the Ford SVO injectors carry a different # rating when installed on GM cars...somethin like they're 38# on a GM but only 30# on a Ford..try leaning it out some, you might be drowning it with too much fuel. just thought i'd give a little helpful advice
and to stay on subject, I havent heard 1 bad thing about the hooker catback

I have the Hooker catback (and other mods) as well as a cutout. At peak on the dyno, I gained a whoping 7.8 HP and 12.2 TQ at peak. Throughout the rpm range (IIRC) I gained a max of 12 HP and ~20 TQ with the cutout open vs. going through the Hooker system. Very efficient IMO. Plus a better, more sane tone of the exhaust.

If you read my post you would have seen that I ran 12.5@114 spinning and cocked out to a 2 o'clock position almost until I slammed 3rd gear. With basically wasting my 1st 2 gears I still ran a 12.5@114mph. This was at Thompson Drag Raceway about 1500ft above sea level, also this run was about the beginning of June( about 80-90 degrees). If anyone has seen or been to this track you would know exactly how crappy it can be. The run was on a wen. night Grudge Night. There isn't any track prep on wen. nights: no glue, hell you are lucky if they blow it off with their leaf blower on wheels! I have yet to see a bolt on car go 11s with a M6. Sure anyone can do it with an A4. Other cars that have my same package ARE H/C(with same cam and stage 2 heads)run 11s no problem. Heck Mikey @ Rapid went 11.3@121 in his full exhaust full weight WS6 with the exact same package as my SS. I have SFC and I was running chrome AFS Zr1 rims on the front with brand new 275s, and the only weight reduction I have in no spare or jack, and I weight about 195lbs. Add that up: stock SS- what 3600lbs(fully loaded t-top coupe), 195 lb me. , 1/2 tank of gas, SFC, front chrome wheels 17x9.5 w/new 275s aired up to 44psi, 12 bolt(heavier then 10 bolt)= I would say pretty close to a race weight of 3850-3890... add that to no track prep on a traditionally bad track(Norwalk is our closest NHRA track and is about 700 ft lower in altitude, and is roughly 2-5 tenths quicker and 1-3mph faster then Thompson), fairly hot temp., and slipping and slidding through 1st gear and 3/4 of 2nd gear, and this was my FIRST pass ever on BRAND NEW ET Streets==== I feel the car ran DAMN STRONG! To get back on topic I am debating on switching to the Hooker Catback too, mainly to quiet down my car a bit , and kill that raspy LM. I was going to just add the bullet but I don't think that will quiet it down enough.
