How does synthetic help...benefits?

How does synthetic help...benefits? Alright, have used synthetic in the passed(mobil1 10w-30) whenever i got the car because it was reccommended and supposed to be good... but recently I've been putting regular Castrol GTX 10w-30 just because I think oil is oil ..but should I go back to synthetic?....how about Valvoline syntec?..I heard its very good in terms of oil consumption..I have oil consumption but not that bad!....and as far as piston slap..would synthetic help it.....thanks!

Re: How does synthetic help...benefits? If you change it around 3000 mile intervals you will be ok with either. I think the synthetic resists breakdown better than the dino oil. Maybe someone with more knowledge can shed some light here.
