Default SURGING IN GEAR BUT NOT NEUTRAL/PARK

Today I noticed the slightest of surge while in gear at idle, but no in neutral or park. Of course, the dash tach isn't the most accurate, but it looks like the needle swings from about 490rpm's to 540rpm's in gear at idle. It keeps a rythme not sporadic. NO SES light, and not in neutral or park <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> Any help is welcome. TIA.

Charlie.

How can I check the EGR?

You idle at 500!?!?! I idle at 950 at the lowest! Usually at 1k. Should it be at that or should i mess with the throttle closed screw?

If EGR doesn't work at idle then why would this have any effect on the idle? Or are you just refering to a leak at the intake fitting? Not leaking though-checked it. Changed plugs, no difference, will try wires friday and post up results.
BenZ-28, yep she idles at or about 500rpm in gear and like 550rpm in prak/neutral. Yes, these figures are off the factory tach.

The surging (hunting) for idle is not always while idling. Most of the time yes, but since watching it closely, there are times when it idles steady. Can't pinpoint it exactly, sometimes when cold, other times hot, coasting to a stop or engine breaking. Hopefully it is just the wires. They are 3 years old, although they only have 13,500 miles on them.

I have the same surging in drive at idle with my C5. The surging is intermitent. I too am curious as to what causes it.

Should the 500 be the same for M6's too? I might mess with my idle screw, the worst its going to do is idle rough
