Default gas mileage.......WTF!!!!!!!

I have a 98 and recently my gas mileage has been sucking....i get about 215 miles to a full tank but i remeber hearing that 98's ha ave a smaller tank and bigger injectors....what could be the problem?????

I did a plug change recently which helped and I also changed the fuel filter...

BTW:i have a messed up cat that is gonna get fixed this week.....any suggestions....?

Could it be a bad O2 sensor causing you to run rich? Thus the poor gas mileage.

Fix the Cat's, or get rid of them. 215 on a tank, is that city driving, and keeping the RPM's up too I bet?

Ive just stopped watching fuel consumption all together, its not like I bought a civic. Anyone know why the EGR is suppose to be for better mileage but the newer Z's dont have it? That confuses me...

I have a 98 Z28 with 3.73 gears and it is a automatic and about 90% of the driving I do is city driving. I get about 215 to a tank that is usually with a couple races during the weekend. I also have bad 02 sensors so that could be a problem. Think that I am just going to go with sims.

the guy who told me that it helped gas mileage was going by the fact that burt exhaust will fill up space in the cylinder, therefore saving gas by making the engine require less gas.
i just found out that wasn't true. the main thing egr does is take up space in the cylinder not enough to help gas mileage but enough to help keep the engine cool. the idea behind that is if its already burt then it can't produce more heat. thats why it doesn't operate at idle. and it doesn't work at full throttle because it would hurt power at full throttle by taking up needed space. so egr has little to no effect on mpg.

I believe EGR is there to make it possible to run the car very lean with lot's of timing at part throttle, thus possibly contributing to the mileage. The main reason for it's existence is emissions of course. The newer models got away without it due to different cam, or at least that's what I remember. My memory is good but short. Oh, and I get about that mileage too with a '98 and 3.73s, 95% city.

I usually get about 230 miles per tank, but it also depends on how you drive. I get on it every once and a while though.

Keep giving it the gas I say. It just gives me this feeling of disappointment when I see these guys on the road who obviously love cars and get their dream and buy a porsche or a vette etc and drive them slower than the mini vans

Wow! I drive my car pretty hard and I usually get 300-325 on a tank. I do more highway driving though, and it's an M6 with just the basic bolt ons'
