Default Why does coolant go through the TB?

I just read another post with yet another reason why coolant passes through the throttle body. Does anybody know the REAL reason why we have 200 deg coolant water passing through our TB? Here are the running theories that I know of.

a) For Emmissions. I don't know how this one works. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

b) Avoid TB Warping by keeping the TB at a constant x-sectional temperature

c) To heat the throttle blade during cold weather eliminating the chance of ice buildup on cold humid days (this is the one that I have always agreed with)

d) Improve Efficiency via waste heat method.

e) GM wanted to give us something to disconnect and bypass for the hell of it.

f) Heat up the incoming air on start-up to help with starting on cold days

g) None of the above

So which one is it?

C and F is what I've always considered the reasoning behind it.

Remember GM (as do the other manufacturers) have to cater to the majority of consumers needs. There are other variables that GM has to factor in when designing things such as TB's. While it may be common that you and I would eliminate and bypass the coolant from the TB, there are more people than you think that actually never lift the hood on their cars, let alone perform performance mods on it.

These are the same people that will complain though when the car idles like sh*t and runs like sh*t when it's cool/cold out

Definately C.

The cold air coming into the TB if it's filled with any moisture has a chance of freezing on the throttle blade and making it stick. This prevents that.

Even though I mod TB's I really gotta say that a since I live in NY I don't disconnect it, it's really not going to get you anything. But I do get a ton of TB's that people do this too.

Either way I don't think it's part of the 1mph gain at the track.

Just C, as how could it be F, the motor is cold, so where does the heat come from?

Ryan.
