SLP Cold Air Induction or Free Ram Air mod???
I'm looking for cooler air for my engine to breath. Is the SLP cold air or any other brand worth the money opposed to just doing the free ram air mod? How much more power am i going to pick up from a cold air kit opposed to the free ram air mod?
I have the SLP CAI and it works well, especially on days like today when it is crisp and cool. The only downside is my engine temps are higher. I suppose I need to do the fan mod.
I just ordered the SLP cold air induction today. It's on sale now for $115 which is worth it to me. I don't know any performance numbers, but I have heard it is a worthy mod.
All ive done to my car so far is induction. Lid, the free ran air, and took off the tb coolant(if you are going for cold air you need to do this) and port polished it. When its cold outside and im getting some air through the engine the manifold isnt more than 5 degrees hotter than the air ever gets. So in coolness I doubt there's much of a difference, but in ram air there might be a small difference

It's only worth about 1 horsepower on the dyno. A friend and I both have 'birds with basically the same mods except I still have the free ram air mod, and he recently upgraded to the SLP kit. It only amounted to about 1 horsepower. If spending that kind of money for 1 horsepower is worth it to you, then go ahead and do the SLP induction. I have to admit, it does look more professional.
The car would have to be in motion to really get the ram air effect, not sitting on the dyno. I guess you could think about doing the free ram air first and later add the SLP system. Do a search on Fast Toys Ram Air (FTRA) and you should find alot of information about this.
I recently installed slp ram air kit with slp mass air and smooth bellow all at once and it felt like a different car as soon as i drove it.. dont know what kind of dyno numbers were picked up but the rpm's rev way faster then they did.. like the other guy said though u wont see much of a gain on a dyno, this mod shows best results when u are moving. good luck,

You'd be better off with a Fast Toys or Whisper Ram Air. The extra parts they add are well worth the difference in price.
I made a replica of the super sucker ram air that i have seen at speed inc with some lexan. And i noticed a nice improvement in mph on nice cool days but if u do it make sure to get a 160 or 180 thrm. cause the car will run hotter.

If you get the SLP CAI make sure to spend the money to get the Fast Toys upgrade. Without it the SLP kit is a waste of money. As is typical with SLP it is a nice looking piece that is way over priced and does not live up to its claims. If you haven't ordered it yet get the FTRA kit.

i would recomend the fast toys ram air, its a little more expensive but its worth it. i gained about two tenths in a quarter as stated by fast toys. of course the car is going to run a little warmer but i havent heard of anyone having problems with overheating. fast toys website is good and after talking with thunder racing they also recommend the fast toys due to better vacuum pull.mine works well and it sucks
