Exhaust question???

I have a 02 Z I cut off the exhaust after the cats. It feels to me that i lost a lot of power. Is it the sound making me think that because it is so loud or did i actually loose power with no exhaust? Im not sure how the back pressure works and im wondering?? Any ideas????? Thanks guys. I got headers gonna go on this weekend thats why i cut it off. I just wanted it to sound cool for a week.

Probably in your head, but it doesn't really matter.

But then again, you are losing the thrust from your exhuast gas flowing out the back.
