Is a ported and polished t/body worth it.. I hear mixed reviews of people saying factory is good up to so many horses and others saying a ported and polished t/body is a nice little helper.. it sounds like it falls under the catogory of "every little bit helps" also is a bbk 80mm to big?? please reply..

First, most people say they are worth it.
Second, the stock one is good for 700cfm (rated like a carb @ 20")
Thrid, every little bit helps, does a 1-2 MPH gain sound like a helper to you in the 1/4mile?
Fourth, the BBK is too big, a 80mm TB works like a carb with a restrictor plate. The 75mm hole is the size in the intake and you can't even get the LS1/LS6 that big.
BTW: I build ported TB's http://www.lswon.com/bret%20bauer/bretbauer.htm

If you look at the stock TB, it looks like a ventury in a carb. The area where the throttle blade resides is smaller than the intake. The 80 mm is just slightly (like 1 or 2 mm) larger than the intake.
I just took a carbide grinding bit and ported the opening in the intake out to match the 80 mm TB. This was to get rid of the whistle at part throttle (had no noticeable butt-o-meter increase).

I want a bauer Bad!! I love the way their powder coating and their work looks.. But they dont have t/body's in stock for exchange, do they.. I cant have down time on car..

We do have some, what year car? Some times it's a wait, right now I need another extra 2000-2002, even though I have a core I could use an extra.
Drop me an e-mail, I'll see what I can do.
BTW the test that everyone reads is the article from a few years ago about Pat Mussi's 383 LS1, and that 800cfm is @ 28" of H20 which will work directly out to 700cfm @ 20" of H20 which is what you rate TB's and Carbs at. I know I flow them. I quote my TB's at 825cfm @ 20" of H20, if I quoted them at 28" of H2O they would be 970cfm, so I would show a more impressive gain. 170cfm gain vs. a 125cfm gain. I go by how you quote them not what sounds the best for you guys. I can if you want, but that's not the way I do things.
You can't port the GM intakes out to match the BBK, you go right into the intake gasket. Hell I can't even match a prototype 78.75mm to a GM intake. So if you want to spend more money to flow less CFM into your engine, go for it. It's not just one part, it's a system. Belive me, if the BBK was better I would not waste my time on these things.

P.S. If this sounds like I'm a little bitchy, I had a bad personal day. On the other hand bussiness today was great! Sorry if anyone takes it the wrong way, I don't mean that.
I read that a bench test revealed a stock unit flows 800 ....so it is good till 500+ HP...
