Problem with '98 belt tensioner?
I heard a rumour that there was an issue with the '98 belt tensioners.
My old belt sometimes jumped a rib or two after a dyno run, and even flew off at the top of 4th on the highway.
I replaced the belt recently. I just gave someone a ride with a few 40 - 125 mph runs, and after this, the belt was two ribs off again.
I think I'm going to replace the tensioner anyway, but I'm curious if they had an issue.

Re: Problem with '98 belt tensioner?
There is a TSB out on the tensioner. Do a search on it and it will pull up all of the info. including the the TSB numbers and fixes and new PNs. I believe that the new tensioner has a flange that helps it stay lined up etc...
Here are some things that I dug up on this board earlier when I had some belt issues with the SS:
I got this TSB 00-06-01-008Basically its 3 new part numbers.12563326 Double Row Idler Pulley Assembly revised12563327 Generator Bracket revised12562626 Serpentine Belt Revised (longer)
>>thanks Tim<<<

Pro stock John - did you have the chirping problem, or the jumping problem? What does a high sholder tensioner go for ($) these days?

Re: Problem with '98 belt tensioner?
I also had that same problem with my 98 SS.Luckily my problem was solved with a new gm tensioner that was updated and had a new part #.That and a new belt 15000 miles later no probs. The new tensioner seemed to have a lot more spring pressure.Just my experience. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
