Default Why buy the Hooker Catback instead of the Hooker Muffler?

I've been thinking about the Hooker Catback and was wondering why I should buy the entire catback for my WS6, when I could just buy the muffler and weld it in?

Any opinions?

Russ

The muffler you can buy separate from the catback has a smaller inlet diameter (2.5" vs 3" I believe).

good luck,

Ahh, I forgot about the 2.5" inlet diameter.

Thanks,

I would confirm that with Hooker... Our cars have 2.75" pipe, so if it was made for an LS1 car it should have at least that size inlet. Also, you should be able to get one with a 3" inlet with little effort. A 3" pipe inlet fits our 2.75" pipe just fine.
There just isn't alot of sense in paying out the nose so you can have a .25" larger pipe with the muffler. Besides, our pipes are mandrel bent stainless, they flow just fine on a mild to moderate LS1. You don't NEED more flow until you get into serious mods like H/C. By the time I was to spend all that money for H/C I would want more than .25" more pipe anyway... say 3" duals or 4" Mufflex. IMO the 3" cats are a waste of money.

Dave,

Basically I just want the Hooker for the sound. No rasp at WOT and a not so loud, low idle. For flow, I'm installing a cutout so no problems there. What size are the factory outlets on the WS6? I'd rather just buy the muffler if it's possible, but I'm not sure on the size of the muffler outlet size.

Thanks,

Russ

Just by a muffler its plenty that is what I run on the shop WS6 and through full ex. w/ stock intermediat pipe and a Magna Flow muffler it dynoed 416 and has a ton of low end.Back pressure works to your advantage.

you don't need a cutout with the hooker cat-back for 2 reasons
1.it flows good enough that you wouldn't see much of a gain
2.you don't need it with the hooker cat-back. cause all you hafta do is unbolt the 3 bolts from the muffler and drop it off. so that you not only get the benefit of a cutout but you also save weight as opposed to keeping the muffler on.

Russ, you may like the setup i have then. i bought a Hooker Aerochamber single in/out muffler and had my muffler shop weld it in place of my stock WS6 muffler. then for the passenger side exit pipe, i had them run a pipe from my Zed style cutout flange to the exit pipe on that side (so basically it's an identical setup to a Borla but for less $$$). there is a flange at my Zed cutout that i can insert plates or no plates at all to run open. i'll try and take some pics this weekend-email me if you want some. i found it to be very quiet when it's fully closed though! i leave it open all the time and it seems to have just the right tone. it's a little quieter than just running an open Zed cutout, since there is extra piping now to direct it out the stock tip.

I haven't seen the Zed style cutout before. I'd be very interested in seeing your setup. I'll shoot you an e-mail.
