Need Help Fast!! Got crank pulley half off and...

Need Help Fast!! Got crank pulley half off and... ...found that the first 3-jaw pulley puller (2-ton) that I borrowed from Autozone had stripped threads 1/2 way down the bolt.
Took it back and they gave me another one, which I promptly hooked up, torqued over several times, and snapped off one of the arms (we're not talking an air gun here; just a good old fashioned 3/8" driver with a 1/2" socket.
So, I go back to Autozone, where a mechanic who happens to be in there tells me that I'll never get the crank pulley off with "that", and tells me I need to use a harmonic balancer puller. Fair enough, so I take that home, and now I have no idea how to use it. The way he described it, I would put a cap on the end of the big bolt, fit it into the hole where the crank bolt was, and screw in three other bolts for support.
Problem is, I don't see anywhere where these things screw in??? Will this work on an LS1?? Did I just get a bad 3-jaw puller and should I just pick up a new one and go from there??

Re: Need Help Fast!! Got crank pulley half off and... That's what I'd thought!! Tried to explain that to him, but in the end, I ended up doubting myself since I'm not a certified mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.
Looks like I'll need to find another 3-jaw tomorrow and give that a shot tomorrow night.

Re: Need Help Fast!! Got crank pulley half off and... A regular harmonic balancer puller won't work. Normally the accessory belt pulley bolts to the harmonic balancer and these bolt holes in the dampner are what would be used to pull it from the nose of the crank. The LS1's aren't like this. I used a three jaw puller like you originally described--it was from my MAC tools puller set. Sounds like you just need a better puller (quality/stronger). It will take a little to get it busted loose but once it starts moving it should come off easier.
