Default ned help on litle bro's LT1 problem...

Crusing at 50 MPH at a low RPM or driving slow at low rpm like 1000 to 1500 RPM it starts bogging down, it feels ALMOST like its misfiring, (BUT ITS NOT)i have changed the plugs and wires twice, and also i have checked the TPS sensor the fuel filter, the injectors , the PCV valve, changed the air filter, and used B12 cumbustion chamber cleaner through my PVC vacume hose. WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE. NEED ANSWERS?????????????????

this is as he post in the other forums.....im not there to feel the car so i dont have first hand knowledge

Hey its me KG93LT1 aka Kerry...i have 129814 miles on my 93z and im not sure if tha opti has ever been changed bc i JUSS got this car like 3 weeks ago...i'll have that checked out 2maro and see if thats the problem. Like i sed in my other post "i have done everythang i know to do to stop this" I wanna put sum stuff on my z to wake it up a lil bit but i gotta get this problem fixed first. tell me if this is a good start when i get this problem fixed.
1. Longtube headers to a Y-Pipe with a cutout
2. Stall converter
3.MSD ignition
4.MSD wires.
and thats it for now.....does that sound good to start with IM new to tha Lt1 so i really dont know where to start?

Try replacing the following:
opti
coil
Also check the following:
fuel pressure

Very common problem. Some people say they were starving for fuel when they fix it, some people say it was spark plugs arching, or needing to be replaced. The main thing is though, most people replace so much stuff at once, they have no idea what the exact problem was My mom's did this, and the dealer suggested replacing the computer.. It did fix it, not sure exactly why.. but it did

For bang for the buck, I wouldn't worry too much about the MSD ignition. Headers give great benefits. Another thing you might wanna try is 3.73 and 4.10 gears. You can usually get those fairly cheap. Drivability is great, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Do not waste your money on a ported throttle body, or air foil. There are much better things you could buy for your money. I donno if you've ever owned one of these cars before, but you'll love the difference of subframe connectors also. Really stiffens up the car. A pro 5.0 shifter would also be one of my first suggestions, as it makes driving it 10x more enjoyable.

I would also not suggest cruising at 1000rpm, as I've heard it can be bad for the bearings. I'm not sure why this is, but its just what I've heard. I try to keep mine at about 1500-2000.
Good luck.

The coil is the little guy bolted to the front of the driver's side head. Most people fabricate some sort of spacer with longer bolts to get the coil off the head. Heat + coil = disaster waiting to happen. On my buddy's LT1, we just picked up some longer bolts and stuck it through the coil then placed nuts onto the bolts then threaded it into the head, so now there is about an inch gap.

Try replacing the coil first, since its cheaper ($40), while the opti is closer to the $200+ range. Check fuel pressure and maybe change the fuel filter ($8) while your at it.

10$ says its the opti, although replacing the coil first is probably smart. Have you replaced the opti before. What year is it? 93/94's have a problem with the opti ingesting water and then corroding. I've replaced mine and you wouldn't believe the crap that was in there. Switching to a 95 set up with my 383 build.

I have had the 93,95 LT1 & i guarentee you it's the optiCrap!
the 94's & up are "vented" opti units.
The 93's are the real $hit!
Fairly simple to replace.
Have you got the opti wet?
Maybe went through one of those auto car washes that shoot the bottom of the car?
Coolant leaks?
Oil from intake maybe?
Anyone that has had an LT1 has had the old "intake" leak thing!
Does not take much to crap one out.
Good luck!

I had a 96 Z28 A4 with 2.73's. I had the same problem as you describe. Especially on the highway. It turned out to be a plug wire. I replaced both plugs and wires and the plugs were fine. Good luck.
