the startup and idle sounds like a truck. it doesn't have a real "tone," it's like a cranking grumble - but it's not in a bad way. it just sounds like...a truck!
crusing 55 there is no sound. none. crusing at 80 down the PA turnpike...no sound. silent. nada. zilch. i actually sat and focused just to pick up a noise. 0.000000000001% drone. radio volume 1 = no exhaust sound.
crusing shifting at 2k, it's practically silent. you can hear something, but it's not much. my 3.4L V6 w/flowmaster 80 series catback was a lot louder.
now we take her up to 3k. hoooooly ****, there's the exhaust! this sounds borderline amazing. it kinda sounds like a mustang, it's really uncharacteristic of fbody sound. it's very smooth but roaring. i get a little BABY pop (there's gotta be SOME rasp with manifolds) when i take her up to 4k+ and it shifts into second (A4 here) but not nearly as bad as my cousin's mustang GT w/flowmasters. when he shifts it's like gunfire - pop pop rasp! there basically is no rasp with LMII unless you rev it up in neutral to 4 grand and let off. rasp is minimal with this system.
all in all it sounds great but if you like it loud you won't like this one. to get it loud, you have to take her up to 3k+ and that'll kill your mileage. when i bought the car i figured i would take it right off and get true duals. now i'm considering getting LT's with a catted Y and leaving it on before i make any decisions. if it's still too quiet i'll get a GMMG eventually.
it's a beautiful system. nice tips. all stainless steel. it's 5 years old (2001 formula) and it looks brand new. muffler is bright and shiney. i love the system, it greatly exceeded my expectations. now, i pull in at night and my parents don't even hear me come in. before i used to wake them up with my old 6 banger. lol. it's great for sneaking around with the ladies
you can still impress them with the grumble and no one will be the wiser when you drop them off an hour late.
