does the hooker catback need coating? I have heard some people paint theirs to keep it from rusting. How good of an idea is this. Anyone not do this but wish they had, or vise versa? Just curious.
Re: does the hooker catback need coating? your a little bit confused. some people paint the tips to keep them from rusting cause they are chrome and chrome tends to rust.the rest of the cat-back doesn't need anything to keep it from rusting because its aluminized. i've had mine on since august of '01 and have only minor surface rust on the welds done at the muffler shop and some rust inside the exhaust tips.

There isn't a lot of saltwater in OK the last time I checked so if you live near the coast or drive on salted roads in the winter you'll eventually have rust with the aluminized. I switched to stainless after my aluminized rusted after too many trips to the boat launch which sometimes floods with saltwater. That's a small price to pay to be able to spend time in the salt marsh. It's a worthwhile tradeoff.
Re: does the hooker catback need coating? Unless you live up North, aluminized will outlast your car. I have had my Hooker catback for 2 yrs and it still looks perfectly fine...
However, I would definately recommend squirting a coat or two of clear coat on the tips. They look great when new, but need to be coated to keep the shine...
