From info that Ive seen:

If you live where they do emission testing, the inspectors will hook up a scanner for OBD2 and look for the things that should be there. If they don't find them, they fail you. What exactly are they after...not sure, but that's the process as I know it. Hope it helps at least a little.

Better yet can I cut the tubes off and plug the lines.

DO NOT remove those. the air tubes are those hoses(pipes) that are bolted to the exhaust manifolds. should be in the area of the #3(drivers side) and #2(pass. side)cylinders. just follow those hoses and remove accordingly

Just one thing to remember when taking the AIR assembly off. On the drivers side there is a 3 way hose connector. There is a small vacume line on it that cant be taken out. I plugged the vacume line on one of my coil pack bolts. This way I don't lose vacume and dont throw any SES lights.

Second.....

I live in Southern Maryland. I took the SS thru emissions on Wednesday. I have Hooker longtubes, custom Cat-Less Ypipe, !EGR, !AIR, !rear O2's, !Misfire, !skip shift, and corrected speedo for the 4.11's. All of this was done with LS1 Edit. I drove in, gave the clown my Emission Inspection Notice. He did a pressure test on my fuel tank cap. Then they drove the car over the rollers to the OBDII computer. Turned the key on (engine not running) and plugged her in. In about 5.7 seconds, the computer said waiting for next vehicle. I was in and out in about 5 mins. The longest part was waiting for change when I paid for my test.

LS1 Edit and deleted codes PASS NO PROBLEM in Charles County, MD. They never once looked under the car for the cats. I also have the T1 Cam and it lopes good thru the Flowmaster muffler. I know they heard it cause a few of the other clowns that worked there commented on it. Also, if you stand behind my car for more than 15 sec while it is running your eyes start to water and you begin to gasp for air. Those idiots didn't seem to notice that either.

Hope my experience and info helps <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I removed my egr and AIR systems, and the I/M (inspection/maintenance) section in EASE have the egr and AIR tests listed as "completed."

I never noticed any small vacuum line when removing my AIR tubes..??? Perhaps they are not there on '98s or perhaps I missed it...where exactly is yours, and what does the line run to?

It is on the drivers side, near the intake I believe. The rubber hoses from the AIR tuebs go into a plastic thing and thats where the small vacum line comes into the mix. I just put a screw with some glue in the end of it.

I still have no clue what I'm looking for. Near the intake on the drivers side could be anywhere. What exactly does the line connect to (on the engine side)?

Same here. I removed my AIR last night, and didn't see anything like that?

98SilverZ is right..........................

The AIR system DOES help heat-up the Cats on engine start-up so they can convert HC, CO and NOx sooner. If your running Cats leave the AIR system alone.

The OBDII procedure also requires the inspector to perform a visual 'Tampering' check to see that all emission components are in place. This includes Cats, AIR system etc.... How well the inspector does this is open to debate.

If you have to pass OBDII, I see no good reason to trash the AIR system and there are High-flowing Cats on the market so thats not an issue.

Enjoy your cars.
