i got the first setup in my 84 z28 , it has alot more surface with the top filter you cant really improve on that. run the xtream flow top.make sure you follow the directions to install the top though, you dont want to suck dirt. great setup if you got the hood clearance.. i hate to make a home made cowl.. put alil lithium grease around the top of the filter and alil rtv silicone under the bolt too.
I have the K&N lid filter setup aswell, the first one you show. It flows alot better than any other solid lid setup out there. Stay away from the edelbrock element because I watched it almost burn down my buddies '78 camaro.
