Mac headers on my 2000 Z?
- I was wondering if this is a good deal?
- Will I see a good gain with my mods?
- Will it sound good with my loudmouth? (I love how it sounds right now)
I hope you guys can help (I ususally get good help here ), and I could possibly be buying in a week if I'm convinced that they will do good. FYI: My 2000 Z28 will be ridding on eibach sportline springs, waiting til spring to put them on.
The MAC cats are horrible. If you get the headers, get better cats.
the loudmouth doesnt have a muffler..so its gonna be raspy, good cats will help.
if your not worried about smog, get longtubes, if you are..sounds ok to me, but really your just buying $500 mid-length headers. I wouldn't buy the rest for 50 bucks
I hear everyone yak about this all the time. (BTW I'm the guy who's selling the headers he's talking about.) And NO I'm not selling them because of the cats.
I'd REALLY like someone to give me some definitive proof these are "so horrible." I've seen ONE and only ONE flow test for these quite some time ago. Is one flow test by an anonymous source the end all be all? I wouldn't think so.
Joe Prince said they didn't "suck."
I think at this point all of you are going completely by word of mouth. I want someone to show me how horrible they REALLY are.

THANK YOU N.Y. LS1.
Finally someone on here that actually thinks for himself and HAS MAC cats on his car.
See, that's what I'm saying - nobody has any specific examples of how "MAC cats" lost them 20 horsepower or whatever...... If you do, I want to see your before & after dyno #'s.
I don't know how the hell everyone jumped on this MAC sucks bandwagon with no #'s other than some ancient and IMO questionable flow test.
For comparison data, look at http://www.installuniversity.com/ in the tech article section they have flow data on stock, TTS, FLP and Carsound cats.
From what I can see, MACs can flow as good as any of the others if you get good ones, but there is tremendous variability in the MAC flowrate. The data on their website shows the flow rates range from about 210 to 460 cfm for a given static pressure.
This may be why some people like them and some don't.

Great post. Thanks for the info.
I wonder if the issues with some of the MACS were based on early sets they sold, perhaps they had some quality control issues intially.
I would find it hard to believe if they were so bad they would continue to manufacture them as "hi-flow" cats if they couldn't even perform as well as stock (what MANY people say/think.)
I think there's proof right there that they can flow as well as Carsounds, Random Tech etc. with REAL numbers not just uninformed opinions.
