What exactly do o2 simms do?

What exactly do o2 simms do? As the post says what exactly do o2 simms do? Are there any draw backs to using them? I ask because I was going to put them in the rear o2 sensors even though i still have cats because they are much cheaper than the 02 sensors?
Re: What exactly do o2 simms do? There are 4 O2 sensors on our cars. The rear ones monitor the emissions output of the cats.
The Sims replace the rear O2's alowing you to run without cats.
