Default Extra Fuel Tank?????

O.K. please don't flame me here....

I was reading the latest issue of MOTORTREND and i noticed in the article about the AEM RSX car that they used a seperate small tank of race fuel. They wired it so that it would kick in an auxilary pump when nitrous was being sprayed. Thus creating the ultimate combo, low octane and then when you need it a great octane booster.

So now my question is, Is there a spot I can mount a very small fuel tank on my car???
I have a local shop that says they can wire it and everything but they don't know were to put it.
Thanks

typically, auxillary nitrous fuel cells go in front of the motor, so you could remove your A.I.R. pump and put a 2 gallon cell in there(custom made of course)

hhmmmmm, ok. well, you could put it in the t-top storage area(but im assuming you will put the bottle there though). or in the spare tire area. but the techs might want to see a firewall if you put it in the car though. as far as outside of the car, cant think of anywhere.

How about converting the washer resevoir into a fuel cell. It seems to be big enough for several passes if all it were supplying was the fuel enrichment for the nitrous.

The windshield washer reservoir would be a really good idea. It holds well over a gallon. I filled mine up a month back (it was empty) and I went through the entire gallon of de-icer and it's still got room for maybe another half.

Easy to fill, nothing to fabricate, even has a pump! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Expensive washer fluid though, hehe.

You could do the battery relocation thing,
and then make a battery-looking tank up
in the now-empty spot. "Energizer".

Actually it's a really good idea. I was think of doing that with some N2O cars. The extra octane in the gas that is supplied with the N2O would really help detonation problems and it's would be an extra safety measure.

One thing about it is that you really need to make sure that the fuel is not going to run out. A Llittle bigger tank than what is needed is what I would do, a N2O backfire because you ran out of gas would make you turn into Dope. (BTW Fuel legaly has to be caried in a device made for fuel, and if it's a fixture in the car it needs to be a fuel cell, how are you going to get into the strip with a washer fluid bottle full of gas?)

Not to be a *****, but it's not water injection here it's GASOLINE, don't do that even though that washer tank is huge.

The other alternative being suck it up and run 100 octane unleaded fuel. At 3 to 3.50 a gallon it is not exactly a ball busting expense. I ran that exclusively when I had my 89 Turbo TA (but the car was not a daily driver either). Whatever, but an additional fuel cell seems a bit excessive.

Well, it would only be used at the track and under serious $$$ races. I think the battery idea is the best. Unless i can find somewhere else. It has to be easy to get to though???? Dang it. Oh well if i ever do this i will post pics.

As an OF myself, I defer to other "Old Farts" like the Colonel (at least in his siggy pic). He was just having a brain-poof. "Dope" seemed like the logical forum name to pick on.

Seriously, both Colonel and Dope weren't serious....where they?

Hey with a 2-way valve, you could really dissolve those pesky bug guts off your windshield with the Colonel's setup, huh?

I was serious. Yeah, it's not legal, that much is true, but what is so dangerous about it? Sealed plastic container, what's the big deal? I actually got the idea from that 13 sec rental neon article. They had used the windshield washer reservoir for the same purpose. Think they were running a 150 shot on a stock 2.0 neon engine, haha. Ended up running mid 13s didn't it?

It would be stealthy, that's for sure.
