Default HAVE to drop some time

hey anybody that could help me out i'd greatly appreciate it! i have not had time sadly to run my 98 z28 at the strip yet but i have street raced with my brother's 03 GT and by how bad i smoke him i'd guess maybe an 1/8 time of about 8.7 or 8.8? my friend runs his 97 t/a every weekend he's running 8.4 and it SURE would be nice to spank him when i run it lol my car's BONE stock so any advice on rather cheaply but more importantly very QUICKLY dropping a few 10th's on my 1/8 time!??

whats your budget?

you can always remove weight, thats pretty much free! (until you get into replacing parts w/ lightweight parts)

the quickest and cheapest would be a kit.

other than than that, if you've got an a4, a stall would be one of the cheapest things to do at dropping time.

like asked above, what is your budget?

An air lid is usually the first mod. Check any sponser, all lids are close to the same.

I also was on a super limited budget. I did the Free Ram Air, T/B bypass, SLP Lid, SLP Bellow, and K&N filter. I bought the bellow and K&N of a member of ls1.com for $35 and the lid for $89 of speedinc. And did the T/B bypass for like $3 from Pepboys buy about 3 feet of tube and 2 clamps and you are done. I def felt a diffrence when it was all done. Check out installuniversity.com They have directions on how to do all the free mods. Very helpful!!

if ur a4 a fuddle 3400 stall will prolly drop your time the most for the cheapest price....other then that you just need to get that baby to breath....start with lid(find um pretty cheap)....port stock tb(free)...tb bypass(free).....and deff some exaust, catback is fine for starters, but always plan for future mods......or if you wanted to save some time and money nos is always an option

Nitrous!

Depends how much money. A ~3500rpm stall and DR's with a 150 shot would make one BIG difference.

I honestly dont know why everybody's FIRST mods arent lid/cutout. lid= ~$100, cutou= ~$100 installed. That right there is between 15-20 RWHP for 200$ and best of all, lid install takes maybe an hour at most, and cutout install takes an exhaust shop about 30 minutes from start to finish!!

Well a lid is a good 1st mod, but its hardly going to transform the performance of the car, which is what the question appeared to be more aimed at.

A cutout is just a noise maker and if you get a good catback becomes completely pointless from a flow point of view.

I agree with both points, but looking at $$ in terms of cutout vs. catback or even a muffler, the cutout will win out each time. *IF* the exhaust is bone stock, a cutout will yield GREAT dollar-per-hp gains. but for $200, EVERYONE should do it!!! and i also agree that they wont transform the car into a worldbeater, but u know the old saying, every little bit helps and each mod builds off the previous mods, so those 2 cheap ones are great to start with: free up the intake and exhaust
