Aftermarket y-pipes are a waste of time. They also have less ground clearence. GM put thoes flat spots in there for a reason and thats for clearence reasons. You wont really get any more flow either, even though its flat spots in the factory Y in thoes same flat spots its wider so flow wont be effected.

they do have lower clearance, but on the flip side to that is that they do provide for a more freely flowing exhaust. take the stock diameter of 2.5" in most areas and the then 1.75" in the flat areas, and hold that up next to a full 3" y-pipe. the difference is obvious but all depends on if you want to go out and get a custom y-pipe made for your manifolds. as Stang killer said this could be a waste of time and money unless doing headers at the same time.
i know from running an ungodly large y-pipe off the QTPs and being on a pro-kit to avoid noticeable areas of which scrapping is inevitable.
