Just got a set of TPIS headers for my SS.
My question is, have they been made AWARE that their headers don't fit?? I hope I have a set of revised ones (not that they've necessarily changed anything), I just got them like a week or two ago. Man this sucks.
Waiting for e-mail .

I sent them last night. When are they going to be posted?
Hopefully someone can host your pics. If you can't find someone to host them, do you think you could e-mail them to me? Thanks.
Did you or your buddy have to notch the K-member like unbelievabLS1 was saying?

I got a set of the TPIS coated F-body headers too. They'll be going on in a couple weeks. They look real nice!

I don't understand. Why do you need pics if you have a set? Or have you ordered them and haven't received them yet? Sure I'll be happy to E-mail you the pics. Post your E-mail site.
Sorry about that, I didn't read over your posts carefully enough. I thought you had pictures of them installed on your car already.
I wish someone had them installed already and could take pics. of what they had to modify on the K-member or motor mount to get them to fit.
We did have to notch the motor mount on the driver's side abit to get them in. TPIS told me this before I got them, so it was not too big of a deal. We had the car on a lift and just used a jack to support the engine and took the mount out of the car to do it. TPIS told us that it could be done in the car... but it seemed kinda tight and taking it out was not that bad.
I also had clearance issues with the knuckle on the steering shaft. I have never heard of another LS1 that had this problem (although I hear it is fairly common on LT1 cars). We just took a grinder and reduced the size of the joint to get the necessary clearance - heck, probably saving a little weight.
I am fairly happy with the headers.. don't have dyno numbers though. However, I do not recommend their y-pipe. It is a piece of crap. Hangs down and leaves me with only a couple inches of clearance - I scrape it on everything. Looking under the car, you can easily see how it could have been designed better in order to get it tucked up a little tighter. I am running cats and I will probably go into an exhaust shop sometime and see if I can get a different one fabbed up that will fit the car abit better.
My car is up on jackstands right now waiting for some tranny work. I'll go out there and see if I can get some pics of the motor mount modification as well as the steering shaft.

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Thanks a lot for the info. Yeah, if I were to say right now that I wasn't regretting my purchase of these I'd be lying.
Nowhere on TPIS's website do they say anything about having to "notch" the motor mounts etc. I think that's totally uncool for them not to say anything about it.
I initially bought these because at the time it seemed like a good price for coated longtubes with y-pipe and cats, but after hearing about how much a PITA the headers are, plus the addition of the crappy *** Y-pipe I don't know.... I'm really dissappointed. I'm going to see if it's possible at all to send these back.
Although, I'm sure I'll be stuck w/ them anyhow.
I'm suprised you bought these knowing the issues they had.
TPIS is a sponsor of our local club and they have been great to us. I didn't shop around much for headers as TPIS does make good numbers with these and I wanted to support them abit. I would have preferred to have gotten the y-pipe done by someone else though.
I am getting a little concerned about the info TPIS is feeding me about cams though... they are claiming that a 224 (much less a 230) cam can not go in an LS1 without piston-to-valve clearance issues... however, many people seem to be running these bigger cams, so.... (fwiw, TPIS is trying to get me to go with a 215 cam instead )
Well, I can tell you this, I'm installing (next week) an X1 cam which is 230/227 on heads that are about 10.8:1 compression and I had the P/V clearance checked by my head porter and it's fine installed straight up dot to dot.
You can EASILY fit a 224 cam in there with no P/V issues as long as you don't have really high compression heads or a ton of lift on that cam (over .600) which most 224 cams don't.
TPIS seems really good about their service and all, and they seem like nice guys but sometimes they say things like that that makes me question their experience with the LS1 a little....
I can understand wanting to support one of your sponsors and all - that's cool, but I don't really have any loyalty to any one particular vendor. I just want a good product for a good price and I'm having a little bit of a bitter taste in my mouth from purchasing these headers.
The Y-pipe is really just not good at all, it doesn't even have a collector on it! I could have had someone from an exhaust shop weld up those pipes like that for $50. The headers would be worth it with a quality Y-pipe IMO.
For internal engine mods, I'd talk to someone else about it first. There's no reason you can't run a 224 cam. You DEFINATELY need a second opinion....
