Default Air Filter Comparison?

Anyone have actual Dyno or Track 'hard numbers' comparing OEM stock vs. K&N, Holley, etc....? How good do these high $$ filters actually flow?

I'am looking for actual comparisons and not just 'seat of pants' feel or opinions.

Thanks for accurate replys.

Enjoy your cars.

I see no difference in mph between a {clean}paper filter and my K&N when I swap em at the track. I've done it back to back several times at the track. I can remove the filter entirely and I consistantly see a improvement in mph{somewhere around .5mph}-every time.
Have not tried it since I got a Holley. It might flow a smidge better than the K&N because the K&N has slightly less filter area. On the K&N, the gasket material wicks into the filter media about a 1/2 to 1 inch all the way around the filter. Don't think it would make a big difference though.

Well its probably based more on whether or not you have the FRA! cutout...if you have this mod..well the chances are...you will get more air flow over not having this mod....as for the paper filter..it probably flows about the same or close to any other filter if not by a small marginal difference....the issue here is you want to prevent from having to buy paper filters over and over especially if you have the FRA mod or any other cold air mod since the filter will get dirtier quicker as opposed to having a high dollar filter which all you have to do is clean it and reoil it....but the choice is yours....some filters have fittment issues and its basically your own deduction......I personally tried the K&N and Holley along with the stock paper and I felt no difference....of course if you run the car with no filter....well its less restriction but I would only recommend that for track purposes....being that tracks are well kept clean and its only for a brief moment that unfiltered air is being sucked into your car......so that's my two cents!!!

Cleaning & re-oiling K&N's & the likes is a pain in the ***---plain english. For 9 bucks, I'll buy a new paper one once a season. Never got a better time w/K&N type filter---pantyhose mod better than ANY filter at the track (with FTRA,or any of the other ram-air setups works great). I have read a few times that a K&N filter gains nothing, maybe actually lose a couple of hp over a paper one. Replacing a paper filter is a non issue because they only cost a couple of bucks. But, I have the free ram air mod. So, I run a K&N only because it is oiled which should help keep water from coming through.

Pantyhose mod: Remove existing filter from frame. Cut a portion of upper leg off panty hose just big enough to stretch over air filter frame, making sure frame completely covered, re-install frame in airbox. Re-install cover & you're good to go. Pantyhose flows free for track use, but not reccomended running in real dusty areas--put your filter back in for running on the street. This mod has been around since the '98 LS-1's. Can't remember who first posted it.... WJ.
