Default Header rasp... please help

I have a 98 ss with the m6. I currently have the loudmouth exhaust as my current setup. I am thinking about getting some headers but I have heard that macs will rasp with the loudmouth. I am going to be running the mac cats. Does anyone have any sound files or have this current setup. Let me know what you guys think of this setup.

Thanks

You'll probably be alright if you are running cats. If you were to put an ORP on then it would rasp like nothing else on earth. And its not just Macs that will rasp with the LM. Its any mid or longtube header and a free flowing exhaust (i.e. !CATS).

If you run no cats you will need to change out that LM Resonator. Most people go get a Bullet muffler to replace it with.

I am going to be running cats. I dont want to have any problems getting an inspection and I also always get tickets so my my exhaust wont help any. So you guys are saying my loudmouth should sound fine with the macs, right? Do any of you guys have any sound files? I want to see what it is going to sound like.

Thanks

I have the exact setup you want to run. I have not noticed a rasp or anything. Just a little cackling. I am running the high flo cats with y. And as far as sound goes it is very loud but not as high pitched like with just the exhaust done.

Yes i have the mac cats. Unfortunatly i have no way of providing a sound demo. But it is a great setup I think. When you sit at a stop light and everyone looks at you and thinks what the hell. That is what it is all about right.

I love when people check my car out at lights. It will be much better when I get the headers. How is your car going down the highway, does it resonate alot inside. How about cruising around, is it loud inside? Did you install the headers yourself? How long did it take if you did. Is your car lowered? I am going to lower my car and wanted to see how the ground clearance is.

Thanks for the quick reply

The car really thunders around 2000 rpm and higher. Under that it is not that loud inside. So I would say this is the best set up for cruising because you can go around about 1500 rpm and it sounds good without cutting in to your hearing. I had a prof. install it took seven hours plus. And when I got the car back I had a number two cyln. misfire. Took it back and he put a new plug it has run fine so far; except if i am in third pulling about 2000-3000rpm and i gun it i fell the car try to suck for more air or something so some air/fuel tuning may be required soon to help that out. So I think. I will be taking it to a dyno shop in woodbridge to have them tune everything. So no more delay when in 3rd or whatever. Good luck!! And enjoy!!

Found no exhaust leak, replaced both of the valves on the air tubes and don't know what the sound is. Any thing above 3000rpm, letting off the throttle and shifting gears is when the rattle or rasp occurs. If while shifting, you add a little throttle the sound lessens. Can anyone explain to me what maybe causing this noise? Could it be a reversion in the flow created from the tuned length style headers. since they create a vacuum under power? Any help will be appreciated. Are we the only ones with this problem?

I have the mac headers and or-y along with the Loudmouth cat back. The only thing that i've done different which I highly recommend because I had the same problem is replacing the resonator with the one made by borla--it's a bit expensive but it sounds awesome.

The only thing is the Borla costs about $150 extra so you're looking at $400 as opposed to $250.

Just my thoughts
