Default Anyone ever gutted a muffler?

I'm going to be putting the stock catback on soon. The guy that I'm getting the catback from, has a Slowmaster 80 series muffler in place of the stocker.

Well my original plan was to buy a Magnaflow muffler to put into place, but since I've been eating toast and soup lately (money is tight), I figured maybe I could just gut the muffler. Since this is basically the resonator that Loudmouth uses, I figured I'd only take out a few of the "triangles" that are inside the muffler so it wouldn't be too obnoxious, yet flow better.

Has anyone done this and if so, any tips?
