anyway to 100% leak-proof LT headers?

anyway to 100% leak-proof LT headers? i am real sensitive to exhaust smell and am thinking of switching out to reg welded collector headers. i hear by using muffler tape first b/w the collector and y-pipe and then using those stainless clamps, you can keep 100% of the exhaust from leaking. is this true? or do you have to weld on flanges (thus destroying the coating and welcoming rust). i not only dont want the "ticks" of leaks, but hate the smell coming from the heat/air conditioning! thanks for your advice.

Re: anyway to 100% leak-proof LT headers? oh and i run no emissions equipment and a cam far from clean 230 on a 111 LSA. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> is it possible i have a daily driver type ride. being able to run clean a/c from a stop without stink? that is my goals. my headers now made me sick of this crap! LOL

was a tight slip fit inside the collector
and Y-pipe mating to it, and you made it so
you had about a 2" overlap into both, this
would pretty much eliminate any direct
exhaust pressure on the gasketed flange.
Whether this is practical depends on the
two tubes' diameters (would want to be the
same, or would want a "reducer cone" between
two proper ones. This is one non-welding
solution (potential). Basically making it a
slip-fit within the face-fit flange.
