Question Descreen MAF??

DO you think this will provide any benfit or one of those more harm then good mods. I know all the after market ones don't have the screen. I have all the other free mods and a Lid. Should I just man up and pull her out? Did you guys just press it out with a screw driver or somthing?

STOP! don't even think about touching that *****.... descreening is not worth the .5~1 hp gain (if that) your car also may run too lean and run like a dead cow. save your money for some big time bolt-ons

I am new to this myself, but I've seen several threads on this, and it looks like the majority of people are going to tell you to leave it alone. Others on the board will just tell you to do a search.

Leave the screen in the MAF alone unless you're going to be spraying a dry shot.

Thanks! Good Save guys. If it is such a bad thing to descreen them why do the after market ones come like that? Minus the SLP one. I was going to buy one but read alot of mixed reviews and decided against it. Not being able to tune it and all. It was just hotter than hell out today and I had a toolbox staring me in the eyes.

I would worry more about something getting past the MAF than anything esle. When I had my Holley air filter on I found little bits of debris in the MAF screen. Switched back to a paper filter and I haven't seen anything in the screen yet. If that screen were not there that debris would have gotten into my engine. That's the nice thing about a clear lid, you can see the MAF screen and anything that would get stuck in it. It's not worth the minimal HP gain IMHO. Especially when at most your talking about 1/2-1HP. I'd leave it be.

Just had my car tuned and he said to remove it cause it is worth 5-8 hps. ... Maybe the tuning makes a diff? I had a 85mm MAF along and he said he rather see the stock descreened than put the 85 MAF in on my set up anyway.

After removing it I can see how resrictive it would be cause the thing is like honeycomb.

Car Runs good....

dont remove unless you spray dry.... i removed mine and havent had a problem, but i couldnt notice a diffrence, and if there is one its prolly not even .5 hp, not worth the risks...that was my first noob mistake, but luckily no problems occured

All you guys that are running better with your MAF descreened are just running more lean. Lean = Mean therfore hence why it seems like an improvement.

Would it(!screen MAF= lean) equalize somewhat the tune of my car if let say I have a full exhaust system that is running rich?

I second that, I had those plastic open Maf ends, car ran way to lean, stay with the screens.

Those MAF's are calibrated and the computer is tuned for having no screen.

Keep it stock.

I removed mine 6 months ago when I got my car. Only issue that I can say about my drivability is that sometimes when I depress the clutch from a mid to high rpm....it seems like the engine decel takes a little longer than it should.

It might have done this before.....or it might be normal and I'm just trippin.

No REAL problem here though. If I had researched more before I pulled it, I would have left that motha alone

Keep it stock.
the sensing circuitry is downstream from the screen. How will the PCM know the difference? only thing i see thowing it off would be removing the "wing" or porting it in any matter that would increase the sensor's surface area as viewed from the front. i can see that causing problems because the sensor would be passing more air than it thinks its passing. not the case with the descreen mod, IMO.
